https://www.local10.com/news/local/2023/02/03/new-video-shows-hollywood-police-dragging-man-into-elevator-after-shooting-him/On Feb. 26, 2022, Cottes asked neighbors to call Hollywood police, because he thought someone was breaking into his condominium at around 8 a.m.
He said someone was in his apartment, in his condo, he comes out with his gun licensed to carry and everything, Christina Cottes, Davids daughter, said.
After police arrived to the 14th floor, they shot Cottes, the condos board president, in the chest.
(snip) They said they werent allowed to visit David in the hospital before he died weeks later, so he took what happened to the grave.

(33,643 posts)Watching the news you'd think it's WILDLY more dangerous to interact with cops if you're a POC, but statistically I believe the risk of death in interacting with cops is 'only' about 10% higher (last I read).
Cops are out-of-control, in so many interactions with the public, and skin color is just one factor. Quite honestly I think it's more about how they perceive your social status (generally, how much money you have) than it is necessarily about race.
We don't hear much about it when police gun down non-Black folks, but they definitely do that as well.
They need reining in, badly. Their lives are not worth more than anyone else's, but that's what they think, and they act accordingly much too often.

(130,533 posts)by cops is whether you opposed them in any way. Don't ever argue, resist, struggle, or try to run away; that gets their authoritarian juices flowing and it gives them an excuse to subdue you, whatever it takes. Even if you're not resisting but just arguing or questioning (Tyre Nichols wasn't resisting and George Floyd was unconscious), they'll yell at you to stop resisting so they can later claim you were. We've seen that on many videos. If you're Black it's likely going to be worse because how dare a Black person argue with the police? But we've seen from the way protesters of all races are treated that even nonviolent resistance will get them riled up.

I am shocked that with the first denial the family didn't immediately hire a lawyer. Also did they document the denial?
If you call the cops, it is best to not have a gun in your hand when they arrive. That doesn't excuse them shooting you, but you know they are capable of it and chances are there will never be any accountability. That is what I suspect happened in this case. They see the gun, and first reaction is to shoot the individual without any sort warning. You see it time and again.
It is inexcusable to take a year to resolve what happened. That is just obviously sandbagging. Why they were dragging him around? I guess the argument could be that they are trying to get him to EMTs faster (meeting them in the lobby) but dragging?
