Some people are saying we should have done what they did in Brazil. Arrest everybody immediately .I won't even try to explain to explain the rule of law here to that in Brazil. That is self evident.
What I can explain is this. When J6 happened Trump was president. He controlled everything. That's why everyone who stormed the Capital was not arrested that day, immediately. If Biden was president and people stormed the Capital people would have been arrested. The National Guard, etc, would have responded immediately.
When people in Brazil stormed government buildings their Trump like president was not in power. People in power sent law enforcement, military, immediately to arrest people. They probably arrested everyone who was near the buildings no matter if they were guilty or not. Some people in Brazil, people just watching, probably had to prove their innocence after they were arrested. That could be hard to do. How can you prove you were just watching.
That's why we have things like due process here in America.

(4,913 posts)Have you ever been to Brazil. I have. My wife is from Brazil. By the way I like Brazil. But the rule of law there is not the same as it is here.

(4,913 posts)Stop lying. My sense of superiority? Where in the hell are you getting that from. I simple stated the reasons why people were not arrested here immediately and people in Brazil were. You turned that it into an all out attack on me that is full of lies.

And in your second post to me: But the rule of law there is not the same as it is here.
You don't even try to present evidence for your point. Your entire argument rests of a sense of American superiority.

how different the laws are in countries that are not the US.
Other than that, carry on.

(9,148 posts)Bidens DOJ took over. There was plenty of evidence to justify immediate arrests. Garland has screwed us over by his milquetoast non-response to coup architects. Coups attempts require swift action for justice. Its two years later; were screwed.

(29,078 posts)In Garland discussions today, including this very brief one pointing out that Trump was president on January 6, why so many personal insults for those who aren't gloom & doom?
Rah rah cheerleaders, blind loyalty, toe the line, hubris, fans -- throw in "bend the knee" and "hive mind" and it's exactly the same insults supporters of Democrats in 2016 were subjected to. Oh, and the "Why do you think Democrats are perfect?" and "Why do you want people to die?" thing, in this thread "you prefer our justice system is exemplary" and that the OP is proud of police killing people and terrible prison conditions. Typical.
