I think we know who our 2024 Presidential candidate will be

President Joe Biden if he seeks another term.
Who will be the rethug candidate and who will win their primary ?
Since we know and all are united on our candidate should we sport a bumper sticker for the rethug candidate that is most likely to lose the primary in order to sew confusion in the rethugs little brain ?....
No trump stickers though.

Am I supposed to give the rah rah rah rainbows and roses version or what I think actual reality is?

Going with the later- If President Biden is the nominee (and he has not said he is definitively running) I’ll enthusiastically support him. But I’m here for primary season and I have my own preferences and they’re for a younger candidate.

The R will be either Trump or Dasantis. If Trump successfully intimidates Desantis and stops him from running, then 2024 will be a win for the Democratic candidate. Trump will not win any of the states he lost before and he will probably lose a few more. If Desantis runs and wins nomination though, D odds will go way down imo and there’s a good chance he wins.

Sun Feb 5, 2023, 11:45 AM
Feb 2023

I like her a lot, and thought she was an excellent Senator.
Unfortunately, as a presidential candidate outside of California, she has very little appeal.
Her run in the last primary never even really got off the ground.
As much as I like her, most other Americans do not. I think VP is the last office she'll hold in Washington.
California governor seems more likely, if her political career survives past the Biden presidency.

Feb 2023

For a variety of reasons, the total implosion of her primary campaign not the least among them. And I say that as someone who had her in my top three during the primary until that went pear-shaped (I was Harris, Buttigieg, or Warren).

However, once Newsom is done, I think something like Governor of California could be a thing for her. Newsom terms out in 2026.

My fear is she runs, doesn't do well, and the party starts having an ugly internal quarrel. I've already seen the seeds being laid down right here that if you don't support her run once President Biden finishes, you're probably racist and sexist. (Seriously, there was a thread with that shit like five days ago).

Who enjoyed 2008? Because it would be that on steroids.

Sun Feb 5, 2023, 06:41 PM

Harris struggled even when she ran in 2020. Her popularity has not improved during her time as vice president.

Additionally, being from California she will face issues in a general election from voters who will see her as too progressive. Gavin Newsom will have the same problem, and he doesn't have to overcome the dual hurdles in the eyes of voters of being female and black, unfair as that is.

I think she would be a better candidate for AG, or governor of California when Newsom's term is up.

Sun Feb 5, 2023, 12:02 PM

DeSantis has no National appeal and has not been thoroughly vetted. We’ve shown that we can win nationally without Florida and Texas, and DeSantis is a short, nearly-obese man, not presidential material. Finally, if DeSantis is the candidate, you can be certain that Trump will do all he can to sabotage him.

Sun Feb 5, 2023, 12:10 PM

But I think you’re underestimating Desantis’s potential- he will successfully shift back those suburban moms that went rogue in 2020, he’ll appeal to younger Republican voters who stayed home, and he’ll bring a big war chest from traditional Republican donors who soured on Trump. We all know the $ matters, and he’ll get the $. He pushes far right MAGA politics the deplorables love, but has the benefit of looking “civilized”, having an Ivy League education, being a decorated military officer, being younger than 70, and having a cute family. Our best case scenario is that Trump destroys him for us.

If, and that's an iffy if, President Biden does not run again, there is one potential candidate who will be romped in a general election. I hope it does not go that way.

I do think Biden is still our best shot.

The 7 off the top of my head:

Andy Beshear
Sherrod Brown (but probably too old in 2028, and certainly for 2032, as we need to end the 'in their 80s before their 1st term ends, let alone their 2nd' thing)
Gavin Newsom
Gretchen Whitmer

Roy Cooper
Josh Shapiro
Raphael Warnock

-----------------------------------------------------

John Fetterman's stroke is hard to overcome atm for POTUS, if he had not had that happen he would be truly up there.

Michelle Obama will never run for POTUS.

Buttigieg (who I think would make the best POTUS of any listed) and Polis will have a hard time overcoming homophobia in both the Dem primaries (especially the deep south) and in the general. (This is especially hard for gay men, lesbians have less issues with the bigotry than gay men do in politics, IMHO, from what I can see..... full disclosure I am a lesbian myself, but that is NOT what I am basing this off of, and yes it is fucked up).

Kamala Harris, I do not think, can win a general, and I have doubts she can even win a Dem primary.

Hillary Clinton would lose in the general, her negatives are permanently too high, thanks to 30 years of attacks.

Wes Moore is one to watch.

just my thoughts,

As far as ending the "in their 80s" are concerned, I agree. Joe Biden deserves a rest, but I believe the only real chance we have lies in him. I have not seen anyone I believe can fill the shoes of the likes of Joe Biden and Barack Obama. In the worst case scenario, one can only hope there is a Democrat out there able to step up to the plate, generate some excitement, and "good trouble".😏

On a side note, one of my personal favorites among Democratic politicians is Eric Swalwell. Intelligent, and a thorn in the Republican side, not to mention his sense of humor.
