https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/college-basketball-program-apologizes-for-disgraceful-chant/ar-AA177Wd5Fans at Moby Arena directed the chant at Utah State's Max Shulga as he shot free throws late in Saturday's 88-79 win over the Rams. Shulga is from Kyiv, where his family still resides.
Colorado State's athletic department publicly condemned the fans' actions on Twitter.
"On behalf of Colorado State, we apologize to the student-athlete and Utah State," the team's statement said. "This is a violation of our steadfast belief in the Mountain West Sportsmanship Policy and University Principles of Community. Every participant, student, and fan should feel welcomed in our venues, and for something like this to have occurred is unacceptable at Colorado State."

(3,816 posts)Arizona guard Steve Kerr, responding to pregame chants from Arizona State fans of ''PLO, PLO, PLO,'' ''Go back to Beirut'' and ''Where`s your dad?''-Kerr`s father was assassinated by Lebanese terrorists in 1984-scored 20 points in the first half to lead the aroused Wildcats to a 101-73 slaughter.
''I don`t think I`ve ever seen Steve get 20 in a half before, and you can credit it to those jerks,'' Arizona coach Lute Olson said.
Everyone agreed that Kerr`s controlled anger was the best way to handle the sick, boorish behavior by the hecklers, but it left many college basketball followers shaking their heads and wondering: Will this season be remembered as the season spectators stepped over the line?

(14,049 posts)And Steve Kerr went on to have an outstanding career at UofA and as a player and coach in the NBA.
He was a very vocal critic of Trump and has given strong public support support for gun control and Black Lives Matter.

Punish them Colorado State. That isnt in stupid boeberts district, is?

(16,529 posts)CO State is in Ft. Collins, which is north central CO, up near the MT state line. Boeberts district is west of the rockies. I don't know the district boundaries, but I'm 99% sure Ft. Collins is not in her territory.

(16,529 posts)I tend to forget what people can be like at a game,o because that wasn't a very big part of my collegiate experience. I went to exactly one football game in college. My friend and I were having a pretty good time until some people in our section got so drunk and obnoxious that we decided to leave early. Never went to another game (football or anything else).
I get being into sports and excited to root for your team, but I don't like the way it seems to bring out the worst in some people, especially when you throw alcohol into the mix, as is so often the case. I look at people like those students in Colorado, and think, gee, it's nice that you're having fun, but I sure wish you could do it without ruining it for others.

(11,370 posts)my experience mirrors. Bad behavior at sporting events (on and off the court) probably always constitutes a minority - but it has also been virtually normalized (and accepted as 'part of the game'.) One of the reasons that I've gone 'off' on the whole experience - some while back.

(11,370 posts)frighteningly stupid at times (ask any parent). But that's why we try our best to civilize and socialize the little beasts. 70-80% of these kids will feel (moderately) ashamed of this action - 4 or 5 years down the line. The remaining 20+ - will go on to be unregenerate sh*t heels for the remainder of their lives.
