(18,860 posts)But it was on the ACLU website and basically said that SOME on the political Left have basically turned it's back on the progressives of 40, 50 years ago...
Authoritarianism is bad no matter if it's my side or their side.
Don't forget, the ACLU FOUGHT so real neo-nazis (not a group of anti-vaxxers) could march in Skokie peacefully.
I'm sure that Nazis under Hitler and Communists under Stalin thought their system was right and the other was terrible
Maybe all authoritarians suck and humankind needs to embrace diversity of thought, opinion and a healthy dose of "mind your own business"....
Lastly...
If you somehow manage to make some form of political "voice" illegal or socially unacceptable (like the Chinese Communists Social Media Score) then you've opened the door for a group of authoritarians to come along and silence YOU and ME.

(21,817 posts)In absence of that , I agree we heading for dark times. I lost almost all my extended family to Covid, Faux News, and, other medical problems. But I will defend to the end, all citizens of this country who are victimized, demonized and attacked by the fascist right. And I will support any candidate who cares about the same. Thanks for the in-depth comments

(1,972 posts)... on a Democratic website is disgusting on the extreme.
Your violent plans will not have my support, any more than they have Hillary's support.

(1,972 posts)And you are doing it in the name of HRC and the Democratic Party.
If you claim that HRC supports your call for a civil war, then it is up to you to prove the lie, not up to me to disprove it.

(7,946 posts)You are right... we are seeing authoritarians on the left as well as the right. But isn't that the way the pendulum always swings? If it goes too far right, it has too swing back far left before it can settle into a peaceful and sedate middle. I have always been a pacifist. But I admit the years since Rump has affected even me. I'm so tired of being the oppressed, I would truly like to do a little oppressing of my own to the other side... if for no other reason, than for them to perhaps see that oppression is wrong, no matter who's doing it or for what reason.
These are my own "sins" I'll have to atone for. Do I feel bad because I could not always rise above the base level? I used to; but no longer. We can only fight our own human nature for so long.
Since the days of my teenage youth, I've looked forward to a progressive future. I was excited about the new inventions we could come up with, the places we would go, the worlds upon which we would walk. Today, I figure wherever Man steps foot, he'll foul it post haste. I just turned 67 this past Saturday. And I'll tell you a secret. Even tho there are times when I'm frustrated and ashamed of myself and my thoughts about the RW in this country, I -still- would like to see a day when progressive ideals are offered and attempted. Where people are nice to each other once again. And maybe... just maybe... there are a hell of a lot less guns out in the wild. I'd like to see a glimpse of that kind of Utopia before I die. But for now, I spend a lot of time worrying how in the hell we're going to live if they take away Social Security. You get to this age after working like a dog all your life, and there are just things you shouldn't have to worry about anymore. That's part of my Utopia. And yes, I realize Utopia never turns out like what you'd thought it be. But I would like to leave a better world for my grandsons to inherit.

(21,817 posts)and what we believe in and wish for. I am proud of that and saw a lot of positive things happening in the post-Vietnam era. But yeah, it seems improbable anymore. I had no idea how many millions either don't care about anyone or even take it to the malicious extreme, wishing others dead. As Jesse J. once said: "Keep hope alive."
