Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine is okay with 10 year olds having kids

DeWine reacts to 10-year-old who traveled to Indiana for abortion: Assault is 'tragedy'

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine called the sexual assault of a 10-year-old Ohio girl seeking an abortion in Indiana a "tragedy," but didn't weigh in on the law he signed that barred her from getting the procedure here.

Dr. Caitlin Bernard, an Indianapolis obstetrician-gynecologist, told the Indianapolis Star that she received a call from a colleague, a child abuse doctor in Ohio, seeking an abortion appointment for a young girl.

Ohio law bans abortions after about six weeks into a pregnancy and has no exception for rape or incest. The law, signed by DeWine in 2019, was allowed to take effect hours after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark abortion decision of 49 years.

The 10-year-old was blocked from obtaining an abortion in Ohio because she was six weeks and three days pregnant, according to the Star report.

3. But was the embryo REALLY SIX WEEKS from conception?

I still think we might help these girls by insisting on the TRUTH, now well-known, that the embryo does not come into existence on the first day of the latest menstrual period. Conception actually occurs about TWO WEEKS LATER, doesn't it? So why are we allowing the anti-abortionists to pretend that the embryo was conceived TWO WEEKS before the actual time of conception? That girl could not possibly have been six weeks and three days pregnant, if her previous menstrual period had begun six weeks and three days earlier.

I don’t know why pregnancy is calculated that way. This needs to be changed.

And, Mr. DeWine, the very thought of an erect adult penis being rammed into the vagina of a 10 year old girl should horrify you, and forcing that child to then go thu pregnancy and childbirth, probably by C-section considering the size of that vagina, should be completely unacceptable, besides being none of your damn business.

… they have the majority of people convinced that a cluster of cells really looks like a teeny tiny baby with teensy weensy fingers and toes.

Doctors who ask patients if they would like to see what has been aspirated or otherwise removed (because the doc has to examine it anyway to see if anything is untoward, and it is rinsed to clear it of blood) — docs report that women who have been distressed are almost uniformly surprised that the result looks like … nothing? A blob of mucus? No teensy weensy fingers or toes. (No heart, either, just an electrical pulse.)

9. Early in my nursing career, I worked in a level II premie nursery.

Overall healthy babies 33-34 weeks and up. Mainly needed nutritional support and isolates to keep their temperatures up, and sometimes some nasal cannula oxygen. No super-early micropremies or high tech machines. We called them feeders and growers. It was fun.

We had lots of rocking chairs so the moms could snuggle with their babies during their hospital stays, which were at least 3-4 weeks most of the time. One time, I came in for my 3-11 shift to see one of our two 13 year old moms in a rocker, holding her baby in one arm, and sucking her own thumb on her other hand.

That image burned itself into my brain, and I can picture it just as clearly now as when it happened way back in 1974. It was the poster picture for why babies shouldn’t have babies.
