Christianity 'has devolved into a rabid tribe': Lauren Boebert bashed for praying for Biden's death - RawStorySpeaking to a church audience, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) told the crowd to pray for Joe Biden: "May his days be few and another take his office.
It isn't the first time she's made such a "prayer." She's been using the line "may his days be few" since 2022, when she spoke to the Charis Christian Center Family Camp Meeting in Colorado.
It once again caused an uproar among those on social media who saw the video.
"THIS is the self-proclaimed party of Jesus Christ," tweeted political commentator Lindy Li. "This is the self-appointed party of Christianity SHAME ON YOU! This is why church pews are emptying at a ferocious rate. Why increasing numbers of Americans now say they are religiously unaffiliated. Christianity in America has devolved into a rabid tribe of Talibangelicals and gun-totin Yall Qaeda fanatics."

I'm not religious, but I'd be lying if I said I never wished anything negative about certain people who I dislike.
But Boebert identifies with Christianity and that doesn't seem to be a very Christian thing to do.

(1,495 posts)most religious. They love to fantasize about people burning in hell. They don't care if women die during illegal abortions, they don't care if poor children starve to death, they rejoice when someone is executed. They disgust me.
They constantly break the commandments.
I'm not talking about someone believing in God. My mother believes in God, but prays at home. Although I'm not religious, I indulge her and buy her Jesus statues and gifts for holidays and her birthday. I have never heard my mother say anything racist or bigoted in my life.
I'm talking about these religious fanatics that are so intolerant of others.
I live in Buffalo, NY and years ago, pro life religious zealots cheered when an abortion doctor was murdered in his own home, while fixing himself some soup. The murderer was a hero to these people. This doctor was also a close friend's OB/GYN, he delivered both of her babies, and she said he was a wonderful doctor and person.
These people pretend to be Christians, but it's just a gigantic death cult. That's all they think of is death, killing, and non fanatics burning in the fires of hell.
Boebert can go suck it with her fake Christianity.

(205,320 posts)How can these hypocrites claim to be "Christian" when they behave in a way that is the complete opposite of Christian teachings?? They lie or support politicians who refuse to tell the truth. They claim to be "pro-life," yet support the death penalty and would rather see a woman die than to end a pregnancy that would kill her. I don't know where these MAGAts learned their version of Christianity, but I went to Sunday school as a kid (my favorite teacher was a kind Black lady, friend of my mother's) and had mandatory religion classes in school and though I don't consider myself religious, what these hypocrites are spouting bears no relation to what I learned growing up...

Bigheart Times: "In what is believed to be the largest land transaction in the history of Osage County, the Osage Nation closed today on the purchase of 43,000 acres of ranch land from media mogul Ted Turner for $74 million, according to the deed filing at the county courthouse. That comes out to about $1,720 an acre."

as to the evil they were doing and its consequences. A thunderbolt of enlightenment. I figured that if that were to happen theyd be pretty miserable.
I couldnt bring myself, for both ethical and spiritual reasons, to actually pray for their deaths. Trump was harder much harder.
I understand the intent of the passages about our leaders in the liturgies in Christian and Jewish places of worship, which in my experience are nearly the same. As written, those passages are not an endorsement as such. In my mind I merely add, May they be wise and just, which is perfectly applicable to any and all in leadership.
It would chill me to be present at an imprecatory prayer, with a congregation casting spells of ruin and bane as one character in a novel I read put it.

Nancy Pelosi has said she prayed for Trump** when he was in office. I couldn't begin to guess the exact words - but I'm confident that's exactly what she prayed for.
And all those who bash all Christians - I am inclined to pray thay each one of them think of some characteristic of their own, not paersonality trait, but a marker, such as a birth category or a philispohical belief they embrace. then think of fomeone with the same category who is a monster - and there will be at least one - there always is. Then they should consider how they would feel if someon said of that marker, "Those people are all like that (monstar.)

(3,850 posts)to take a verse of scripture completely out of its context like that, and either make a joke out of it, or use it in the way Boebert did here. That's blasphemy, and I've heard my own pastors call similar misuses of the Bible out from the pulpit, and claim that it demonstrates the users lack of genuine faith.
If Boebert is a Christian, as she claims, then this diatribe, among the many similar speeches like this she makes in churches where she campaigns, which is a demonstration of unpatriotic disrespect for the constitution, is using a church for personal political gain, which is also blasphemous disregard for its Christian mission and purpose. It's a completely anti-Christian retort, which trashes Jesus' instruction to love your enemies and pray for them, not against them.
And she needs to know that President Biden has far too much integrity, demonstrates human decency and respect to everyone, including those with whom he disagrees, to stoop this low and make some kind of disparaging comment like this. It's quite a contrast in character, between him and his Christian conduct and her lack of it.

Garbage human beings hide behind Christianity and operate tax exempt while lying, hating, denigrating all in a tax exempt status. Damn. Sometimes I get confused. Was I talking about Catholics or republicans? A property tax bill from the good ole USA might prompt the pope to corral his bishops who today dont give a fuck about any separation of any state and any church. (2,738 posts)Jesus's call for humility. So they don't put themselves in front of cameras or take credit for good works even when they could legitimately do so, all too often.
So they've allowed these Evangelicals and Televangelists to seize the media image. The propaganda has sucked in many. But they are heretical and defame Christ. Their theology is bad, bad for them, bad for others, bad for the planet and it is not true to the overarching thrust and sweep of the bible.
C.S. Lewis's The Screwtape Letters provide a great allegory for the temptations that lure folks away from following Jesus's teachings and into pride, anger, selfishness, power, and then further descent away from the joys of love and service. That allegory is shows the truth of what has been going on in these so-called Christian churches.
Fighting against that evil (and many have indeed become evil) requires, IMO, fighting bad theology with good theology and speaking up more. Then also showing the traits one expects of followers of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, the service, devotion, kindness, mercy, love, faithfulness, self-control, and joy, making sure that your faith is known as your motivation. That's similar to bank tellers learning to tell counterfeit bills from the real thing. They only study those that are genuine. It's up to us to reveal the genuine so the contrast becomes obvious.

(2,738 posts)Jesus told us that would be how we could recognize his own. Both men show joy, peace, love, goodness, kindness, patience, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control.
Trump, DeSantis, Abbott, McCarthy, MTG, Boebert, and too many others to name show traits the exact opposite than those by which we are to recognize those who belong to Jesus.
They are joyless and dissatisfied, engage in strife and discord, demonstrate animosity, hatred, wickedness, corruption, intolerance, maliciousness, intractability, frustration, harshness, brutality, disloyalty and treachery, not to mention instability and rashness.
Jesus would be quite clear in saying that they do not belong to him. They are ravening wolves here to steal and destroy.
We are called to seek justice, love mercy, and resist evil and they are evil.
