I liked his introductory recognition of McCarthy. "At the risk if hurting your reputation, I look forward to working with you."

I knew we were in for a good showing after that. Not that I ever doubted Joe's ability to deliver. But he hit it out of the ballpark tonight. Strong, confident, informative, funny, inclusive. Hit all the right notes.

With that toothy, "I got you, sport" grin. He has been in that world for a long time and has a smooth style of disarming his opponent that puts them in their place while getting them to agree with him by way of simple logic. He's amazing.

I never underestimated him. I had a different preferred candidate until he won South Carolina, I was in it for him after that. I remember some his achievements as a Senator over his career, I remember hearing about his family's accident at the time.

I am thrilled that he is the man for the moment in the right place. Very much like Nancy Pelosi being Speaker during the crucial time that she was. She had little opposition in her party and serious discipline among the caucus. She will be remembered as the greatest Speaker, period. Joe will be well remembered for his leadership too.
