(81,267 posts)I was too young - he didn't make much of an impression on me. First became more aware of Presidents during JFK - but I think it was more about his chic and alluring wife and their darling kids - who were a little bit younger than me. It was a First Family I could personally relate to. The first First Family to leave that impression with me. Eisenhower was just another grandpa-type, for all I knew.

(1,369 posts). My local library is named after Mamie because she's from this area. She and Ike even contributed financially to it. And I'm doing my best to read every book, currently participating in 2 book clubs.
