(14,092 posts)My daughter, who is married to a Puerto Rican, has kids and stepkids of all colors. Her husband took her to Puerto Rico back before Maria, and when they got back she said to me, "Well, now I know what my family looks like. It looks just like Puerto Rico!" One of her cousins-in-law expressed it with a meme that showed a picture of a similar bunch of folks. The caption read, "Ain't got time for racism, my family looks like THIS!" However, just like here, there is colorism in Puerto Rico *sigh*

(4,550 posts)The young ones have many multi racial friends. When the girls got their licenses my friend gave them the talk. Her first rule was if you get pulled over you are the only one who speaks to the officer. Everyone else in the car was to stay quiet. She was so worried for all of their safety.

(12,640 posts)Very very very much needed to be said in that kind of platform in these times. Stabbed the "anti-crt" thing they got going right in the eye.
As a black person, I thought it was glorious and extremely well done! Very happy he did that.

(22,869 posts)Not only The Talk that parents must give their dark-skinned children (thinking of adoptive parents as well) and then thought a little further, about The other Talk that we have to give to all of our daughters. not sure if there is a Talk for LGBTQ kids, but there should be.
Seems to me that parents of all children need to come up with a talk about to to treat all other people, regardless of race, color, creed, religion or sexual orientation.
People, families, have children they want. They don't have children to provide moving targets for guns and hate. Maybe if the U.S. was a less hateful place to live, more people would want to have kids. Who the hell wants to bring a life into this world with the expectation that if the body they get isn't a perfect match for white supremacist scaredy cats or out-of-control cops, the born human stands a good chance of being murdered?

Thank you President Biden!
