There is such a thing as decorum.
There is such a thing as respect.
The booing, the screeching, the yelling, etc. at the SOTU address needs to stop. All it does is to remind our enemies that we are divided. The Republican pot stirrers need to be called out for what they are and they need to be made to abide by civil rules within the chamber.
Yes, Im old. Yes, I remember a time when this shit wasnt allowed and YES, I do feel like this is a legitimate concern. They can take their crappy behavior outside the chamber or they can not be inside the chamber.

(19,066 posts)The disrespect played perfectly with everything Biden was saying in painting the GOP as out of control extremists who are incapable of leading. It's disgusting to watch them, but it's who they are and the country needs to see it.

(15,220 posts)But there is also the concept that the party leadership needs to get these jerks under control. What next? Throwing tomatoes?
I would love to see the sergeant at arms removing Marjorie Taylor Green forcibly. To me, THAT would make a bigger impact. Let it happen once and it wont happen again.

(15,220 posts)I loved it and thought Joe was great. But I dont think speeches move voters. What people do you think didnt like it that might change a vote?
The supporters of the likes of Boebert, Marjorie Taylor-Green and Matt Gaetz LOVE this type of dissent. Removing them from the chamber would send a message that this crap wont be tolerated.
Maybe not the loony fringe but certainly anyone who hopes to have social security.

(15,220 posts)I truly do. But I think anyone stupid enough to vote Republican has already proven that they will continually vote against their own self interest and will not change.

(4,616 posts)in the congress now are the ones we have all see at our HS reunions. The ones that never made it into the world of adults. They are low info, poorly educated, still immature 13 year old's trying to function in the adult world. They are obvious as hell and would fit right in on the bleachers at a Jr. High School sports event.

I'm just watching the SOTU for the first time now. It's a real barnburner, isn't it? May be the best I've ever seen.

(15,220 posts)I am taking periodic breaks from around here. I find some of the naïveté and nastiness hard to handle sometimes. Taking a break keeps me sane.
I still need to sit down and watch the full speech from beginning to end. Ive seen most of it but I want the opportunity to see all of it. Joe was the Joe I remember and love!

(4,298 posts)The behavior that gets rewarded, gets repeated. Do not be surprised when they overturn a next election if no one in the insurrectionist hierarchy and hierarchy of election-deniers is not indicted and does not go to jail.

(19,374 posts)Forcibly removing the hooligans would make martyrs of them with their base, and could be seen as bullying by Independents and moderates. No, let them score brownie points with their base, those lowest common denominator voters are really lost causes anyway. Let them show their incompetence and unworthiness for the position they hold to the thinking voters.

(15,220 posts)And it will happen ultimately. Its just how much freaking longer we all have to watch it.
Throughout history, there have been idiots who gain a platform. Eventually, they are put in their place and fade away. Its time for that to happen with the people who make up the MAGA crap.
