ABC's Jonathan Karl said Biden's comment about some Republicans wanting to cut Social Security was "over the top" because "there's nobody seriously talking about sunsetting Social Security in the Republican Party"

(4,078 posts)Roe V Wade,,,, I believed it was too good of talking point and wedge issue for them,,,, so will they damage Social Security and Medicare?? I have to believe they will now.

(53,781 posts)or we'd be in real trouble. Joe Biden will veto any such attempt by the House magats, if it ever somehow get through the Senate which is highly doubful in itself with the Dem majority there.

(7,850 posts)he thrives on access...and remember Jonathan Karl wrote a book that didn't high praise orange sewer sludge Trump...he's got a lot of kissing ass to do...
so according to Jonathan Karl..Republicans were never really serious about "disappearing" Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid, never mind crypt-keeper Rick Scott put it in writing and Kev the Eunuch and his loathsome MAGA Neanderthals promise to decimate Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid every time someone shoves a mic in their reptilian faces...but, hey, Biden overreacted, can't take a joke..right Karl???

(11,738 posts)They HATED FDR for pushing Social Security through since the 1930's. They HATED LBJ for pushing Medicare through. They tried to drown Medicare in the bath tub as a baby, attaching all kinds of restrictions on pharmaceuticals, vision, dental, and hearing services ALL OF WHICH ARE MEDICAL ISSUES.
People need to stop with the bullshit that we are dealing with two parties that just differ around the edges. There is WAY more diversity of opinion within the Democratic party in terms of policy priorities and spending, than there is between Democrats and Republicans. Republicans want all spending on the "unworthy" to be cut. They want taxes low on the wealthy, major military and police spending, and the rest of us to be forced to work for whatever our betters are willing to pay us.

(82,849 posts)How grand it must be to be able to discern, against all evidence, when Republicans are just fucking with people's minds and not putting forth a serious policy change. I'm confident that your estimation of whether the Republicans are serious or just having us all on is iron-clad, no? That is, if it turns out you're 100% wrong, you will personally guarantee everyone's Social Security benefits and access to Medicare? Yes?

(9,481 posts)A few Democratic Representatives talk about "Defund the Police" or police reform, and immediately the MSM paints that as the Democratic position.

(2,738 posts)Claiming that no Rs in positions of power wanted to sunset Social Security and Medicare is flat-out untrue. Trusting the Rs to renew a program they've sunsetted is seriously naive. (See the Federal Assault Weapons Ban).

(70,696 posts)HUME was at ABC before Faux and made no bones about being a consigliere for the Bush Family Evil Empire, far beyond being "embedded" in official events but rather being a guest member of the family at family events. He sneered his way at Dems throughout the CLINTON years and finally made it official at the Faux Propaganda Network. Years later, KARL showed up to claim the HUME Chair at ABC, always with that SLANT of "reporter" skepticism about anything Dem. A couple of years ago when he was cashing in on a Drumpf book, he took his tour to places like The View and the late night comedy shows, pandering to Lefty sensibilities against Drumpf.
But that book tour era is over and my Wingnut Radar has resumed pinging on him. Also about Martha RADDATZ, despite her fans here and despite her Wiki page that says she's got Lib credentials for having had a husband from the Ben BRADLEY house and OBAMA being a guest at one of her other weddings. She and ENGEL are war mongerers.

(58,785 posts)pretending major elements among the GOP aren't ALWAYS talking about how to eliminate SocSec and the rest for good. The trap Biden set for them with this "sundowning" reminder was to keep them from trying to blackmail the nation into making serious cuts to SocSec.
Those who've been "talking about" getting rid of SocSec since inception rightfully believe they're closer to success than ever, with RW extremism high, a divided-we-fall electorate, *a supermajority of RW extremists on SCOTUS*, and even a RW authoritarian coup possible.
Karl knows that.
