What do the 1870 pins mean?

I saw a few Democrats wearing those pins, and was wondering what they mean. Can't think of anything that happened in 1870, but it was 5 years after the Civil War.

1870 was the year of first clearly recorded instance, in Philadelphia. It's a statement that justice is still not fully available to people of color even today.
