This is a long-held, basic belief of the Republican Party. And this is what Joe Biden called them out on.
Social Security and Medicare are the two things that help millions of Americans live longer, fuller lives. They are the two things that Republicans want to kill and here's their plan for doing it: Vote against raising the debt ceiling unless Social Security and Medicare are deeply cut (or perhaps done away with). They will never mention out loud that these are two of their demands for voting to raise the debt ceiling. And they believe their plan will result in Democrats taking the blame for cutting Social Security and Medicare.
These terrorists, who are today's Republican Party, really believe that their plan will work. Except that Joe Biden will never agree to this, nor will the Democratic Party.
Joe called them out on this in the SOTU speech, and Republicans applauded for the purpose of keeping up the facade that they actually give a rat's ass about Social Security and Medicare. They're full of shit. And any senior who buys this phony crap is a clueless fool who is voting for Republicans who have no problem with seeing them dead.
Let me say this to every senior in America who depends on Social Security and Medicare. If you're voting for a Republican, you really don't or can't grasp the danger/deadliness of your political preference. Republicans don't care if you die -- and the sooner the better.

(5,546 posts)Graham, Ron Johnson and all the rest that said they were open to cuts to SS and medicare, I think the seniors in those districts should know who they voted for.

(3,019 posts)And its not just Biden and the Dems saying NO, it will be the voters back home threatening the Repugs political lives if they ding SS and other programs while leaving in place a tax system that favors the rich and corporate interest over the common man.

Aside from the most wealthy (maybe), who doesn't that apply to?

(14,752 posts)This was during covid. They really didn't care that seniors were being hit hardest early on; they saw it as a feature.
To them, it just got them an inheritance that would otherwise go to a nursing home for care.
That is who they are.

(16,399 posts)That's what the Nazis called the Jews and other groups they wanted to exterminate, as well as the people with disabilities that they practiced their killing techniques on before the Holocaust got fully underway.
If someone is using that exact language currently, I find it incredibly chilling.

(16,399 posts)Thanks for the info. I wonder how many Fox viewers know that is specifically Nazi language. (Rhetorical question; I'm sure not many.)
I know it's been said many times, many ways, but:

(19,066 posts)This even bled into Covid too. Republicans knew that Covid was killing mostly the elderly, it actually got them excited because of that. Yes, they are this sick.

(15,041 posts)The well-oiled, grotesque Republican propaganda machine churns out hatred of the "THEMS" 24/7.
I wonder what philosophers, and the great minds of history, would make of self-interest vs hate, in terms of good vs evil?

(13,510 posts)The government actually owes us. The republicans borrowed so much from SS over the years while they were in majority, and they supposedly put in IOUs, actually stealing it from those that paid into it. Time for them to get rid of the tax cuts for the wealthy and put that money back into social security. I also know it will never happen.
true they want to be rid of the elderly, why the hell are so many sitting in the senate and some in the house. Oh wait a minute, they are rich. I guess its just the elderly, including many of their own constituents that support them by voting for them, they want gone. The rich ones can stay.

(6,592 posts)Every time I see voting statistics by age, out of all age groups, Republicans get the most support from the 65+ group.
The older retired voters are the ones who support Republicans the most, so why do Republicans constantly screw over the 65+ group? What do they think they're gaining?
And yes, I understand that Republicans are often incapable of seeing the 100% predictable results of their actions. Is that all it is???

(15,041 posts)Republican "patriotism" is bullshit that they feed to those ignorant enough to buy it. There is no end to the hypocrisy of the Republican Party. Whether it's vets, the elderly, disaster victims, or any others in need or who have suffered misfortune, Republicans just don't care. They are the party of the haves and the very well to do. But they wear American flag lapel pins as cheap tokens to "prove" their "patriotism."
Their campaigns are bought and paid for by the haves and the very-well to do. Why would they care about anyone else? After all, that requires sympathy, empathy and a conscience.
