(13,931 posts)The pictures make it clear that the devastation is vast, it is very cold, and there is not enough help. It is hard not to imagine there are still live people in pockets under that debris, yet the areas hit are so widespread and resources are stretched.
This is clearly hell on earth.

This could end up as bad as the Port-au-Prince earthquake in 2010 (there are conflicting and controversial numbers there, but 100K-160K are possibly the better estimates).

The East Anatolian Fault is remarkably similar to the San Andreas Fault.
