Trump supporter in bomb plot, begs judge to accept plea deal that could net 9 years

The Sacramento Bee / Feb 9, 2023

One of the two Donald Trump supporters accused of plotting to firebomb California's state Democratic headquarters building in Sacramento is asking a federal judge to accept a plea deal that would net him up to nine years in prison, and “begging you for a chance to redeem myself.”

In a handwritten four-page letter filed in court in San Francisco, Ian Benjamin Rogers of Napa begs Senior U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer to accept his word that he regrets his actions and deserves a chance to rebuild his life after prison.

“I am 47 years old,” Rogers wrote in a letter dated Oct. 7 and filed in court Wednesday. “I have never been in trouble before.

“I am begging you for a second chance. And, I’m begging you to believe me when I tell you that I know I was wrong, that I made a humongous mistake, and that I deserve to be punished.

"Humungous"

Rogers faced a maximum of 20 years in prison before the plea deal (https://napavalleyregister.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/ian-rogers-facing-federal-sentencing-in-bomb-plot-to-get-napa-plea-hearing-in-november/article_da8a3642-4412-11ed-b91f-cf48eadb3403.html)

Anyone care to guess what, if anything, the plea deal nets Roger? Based on the link the judge, Breyer, considers Rogers' remorse to be B.S.

I'll guess 15 if the judge is feeling generous, otherwise it's the full 20.

He was going to fire bomb the State Democratic headquarters for goodness sakes! Give Ian Benjamin Rogers the maximum sentence.

“His regret was that his conduct led to his arrest and disclosure of his activities,” the judge said. “And now the government was taking action against him. That’s his regret.

“Putting it another way, he regrets he was caught. I have to say, in 23 years I’ve never seen that type of statement. I’ve never seen a defendant come in and say I regret I was caught.”

And

Breyer wasn’t buying it, noting that when law enforcement searched Rogers' house and his business — British Auto Repair of the Napa Valley, a shop on Action Avenue in Napa — they found five operable pipe bombs and 48 firearms, including four machine guns.

“He had an arsenal that would be the envy of the Ukrainian people,” the judge said. “He had a map that he disseminated showing the exact location of the John Burton (Democratic headquarters) building.

There's a history of these tools pleading to a lesser charge then bragging about being willing to do it again.
His own crowd of traitorous felons & liars should be a reason he gets a sentence beyond this deal.
They simply cannot be trusted.
