Democratic governors, seeing rising threats, look beyond their borders

Democratic state leaders see a federal government hamstrung to protect rights and see governors of red states pushing to restrict those rights. Some are alarmed and have spoken out. If you are looking for evidence of the concerns among Democrats about where the country is heading, look to the inaugural addresses of two blue-state governors — California’s Newsom and Illinois’s Pritzker.

“All across the nation, anxiety about social change has awakened long-dormant authoritarian impulses, calling into question what America is to become, freer and fairer … or reverting to a darker past,” Newsom said. “Instead of finding solutions, these politicians [are] void of any new ideas, pursuing power at any cost, prey upon our fears and paranoias.”

Pritzker put it this way: “Our success as a state goes hand in hand with a determination to fight against a rising tide of hate … For some, the ugly voices that sing those discordant notes sound like siren calls. Their message is amplified by elected officials or political grifters who look to harness the tremendous power of hate for their own ambition.”

In an interview on the sidelines of the National Governors Association meeting, Pritzker expanded on that theme. “They didn’t go away,” he said of those he sees as threats to democracy and people’s rights. “It’s not like we defeated them and they went home and we’re not going to hear from them again.”

But he noted that Democrats can do little where the GOP controls the executive and legislative branches of government in a state.

“They’re taking over their parties in every state,” Pritzker said. “That’s a Republican problem I can’t fix. What I can do is make sure that people understand what the Democrats stand for, not just in Illinois, but to be a beacon of Democratic values in the center of the country.”

Upholding the ideal that NOT all people are created equal. That they are not equal when it comes to Sex, Religion, Ethnic background, Educational status, etc.

We are seeing in Republican led states laws to suppress Voting rights, Civil Rights, Reproductive Rights, Human Rights, and more. While states with Democratic party majorities are working to protect the rights of ALL its residents by expanding assurances and services to meet their needs with fairer taxation in order to pay for it be that Social, Economic, Educational, etc.

The differences in the states could not be more obvious than in the rural areas where services such as Cell phone towers, broadband internet, other solid infrastructure, are lacking. Even Education standards vary from state to state. Gross income based on hourly wage is obvious as it dictates the standard of living. In Right To Work states where the Minimum wage is still $7.25 an hour, it shows.

Republican Governors such as SHS, DeSantis, Abbott, want to do all they can to SUPPRESS the rights of its residents. While Newsome, Pritzker, Whitmer, Walz, and other Democratic Party Governors work to make their states the model for Wage and Economic growth.

Two books I read over 10 years or so ago convinced me of that even though that was not the express theme of either book.

The first was the Bloody Shirt by Stephen Budiansky and the second American Nations by Colin Woodard.

The North won the first big battle but didn’t finish the job. The Southern White Supremacists have never stopped fighting, have never changed their attitudes or given up on their ideology which is that they are Supreme over all others with an inherited, god-given right to rule over all others.

There is no way we should have allowed the south to celebrate their treason for all these years.
There are still statues all over the south celebrating southern treason.

Civil War was declared over by Andrew Johnson in 1866, but southern white supremacists went almost immediately to work on neutering civil rights of African Americans in undermining “reconstruction”. The reality is while they surrendered, they resisted and have, in effect, continued to fight the civil war ever since.

that caused the hate to stir up, and keeps it churning 24/7 year after year until this country is totally destroyed? The answer to the quote

"Their message is amplified by elected officials or political grifters who look to harness the tremendous power of hate for their own ambition.”
is NOT originating with the elected officials or political grifters. It is hammered into small brains by Fux Nooz and the rightwing owned media in this country. That's how those officials GOT elected, and how the political grifters stay employed.
