(16,926 posts)and some 'legends' are tough to live down - but at the same time, you have some that thrive on that 'legend' and take pride in it. And there are others, like me, that like to keep throwing it back year after year after year....... you get the drift.
But, yeah, EVERY city has their fair share of 'idiots' - unfortunately for Philadelphia, theirs got them rated as an easy headline and sports 'special moment.'
But, HEY, with the help of PHILADELPHIA, we got FETTERMAN in the Senate instead of the 'Doctor' who did his grocery shopping somewhere in the Philadelphia area (at least he claims that where he was....).

(65,034 posts)It's mostly performed at 65-75 beats per minute.
The song on which is based was almost always done at 90.
That gives the performers too much time to overusing it.

(65,034 posts)But, I've heard military bands too, and they're doing it too slow.
It's tempo should be closer to this: (starting around 30 seconds)

sung by the crowd.
Fort Worth Symphony does both. Full symphony with the entire audience standing to sing. It's just perfect.

American the Beautiful was okay.
I thought Stapleton sounded like Cocker on Star Spangled banner. Not the usual sound, but i kind of liked it.

(5,557 posts)I thought this and the Ragged Old Flag tribute were a fair and good contrast to modern pop halftime show. The NFL has a broad fanbase, and they did a pretty good job balancing the off the field entertainment and tributes.

(38,557 posts)Let's face it, there was very little about this year's big game that catered to the white, southern, male crowd.
Having someone from the country music community helped to fill that bill.
Honestly, it's a very difficult song to sing. I think anyone agreeing to do it is opening themselves up to a large amount of criticism. It will be a long, long time (if ever) that someone comes up w/ a performance of the national anthem that measures up to Whitney Houston's.
(I also have to admit, I wasn't watching it. I was in the kitchen doing the last minute prep on the snack tray. Unfortunately, I also missed the all-female pilot fly-over.)
Same thing w/ the half-time show. There was an article not too long ago about how female performers have, historically, been heavily criticized for their Super Bowl performances.
For anyone performing at the "big game," it's high risk--low reward.

(15,220 posts)He was awful. He could have shaved or trimmed up a little, too, in my opinion. I know its all a costume but good grief.
And of course all of the Trumpers think he was awesome.
Im not a Rihanna fan either unfortunately. But I can appreciate the choreography.
