USA Today via Yahoo NewsAmerica only has ONE NATIONAL ANTHEM, tweeted Lauren Boebert, leaning heavily on her all-caps key. Why is the NFL trying to divide us by playing multiple!? Do football, not wokeness.
Then Rihanna performed at halftime. Despite once saying she wouldnt perform in the Super Bowl halftime show because of the way the NFL treated Colin Kaepernick and protesting players, she was back, and make no mistake, Rihanna is one of the Blackest, proudest performers of our time.
But wait, it gets Blacker.

I advise everybody to be a little careful when they go down through there, Lead Belly said of Alabama. Just stay woke. Keep your eyes open.

I thought. I'm not the most knowledgeable, but I was on the edge of my seat. I think Mahomes deserved MVP, too. I missed the opening of the game, so missed "Lift Every Voice" unfortunately. Rihanna did good, as always. I liked the dancers and the fireworks, too.
The truth is, that if they took all black players off of Pro and College sports team, the games wouldn't be near as much fun watching......

(2,957 posts)I've been a Chiefs fan since the Len Dawson days. A quick read of the other thread will show that my comment was tongue-in-cheek,
Mahomes ID's as black so that's fine with me, I couldn't care less. They were both Black, much to the chagrin of a few of the posters on the aforementioned thread.
To me, it was truly one of the most exciting Super Bowls ever.

(4,592 posts)as an addition to the original post. Just thought it was interesting. As far as I'm concerned we are all basically mutts. lol. We are a mixture of races.
I wanted the Chiefs to win, too, but wouldn't mention it to my northern relatives and friends lol. I'm from south Jersey. A Steeler's fan all my life. Dad born in Pittsbugh, Mom in Philadelphia lol Anyway, I think the Chiefs outplayed the Eagles. I really hadn't been keeping up on it, but the Eagles did real well this year. When I joined the game at halftime, it was a super close game. An exciting one.

(12,651 posts)I'm just answering the question.
There will always be a half time hoopla because some company gets to pay a shit-ton of money to slap their name on the halftime show. No network would air the Super Bowl without selling slots of ads for a shit-ton of money, and so on...
People can just enjoy the game. However, the powers that be refuse to let people just enjoy a simple game.

(42,770 posts)To ads. Half way to half time because I like her, and we did just fine.
Not trying to argue with you by any means, but believe that hyper attention to all the BS, it is waning. No worries, ads will catch up

(3,379 posts)it's an EVENT, so it's got all of the event detritus, good and bad.
Let people have their once a year hoopla and think of it this way - it pissed off Bimbo Boebert and that attention whore MTG, so there is an upside.
(Not a pro football fan, but I understand sport in general and often what it stands for, good and bad).

(1,527 posts)Sometimes called the "Black national anthem." They hate the fact it is being used more frequently, they think there should not be women in the military, and basically they hate the in your face attitude against people who hate wokeness. They always say politics should be out of sport. Never mind the fact that sports and politics have been intertwined for as long as sports have been around, but excuse me, bastard, weren't they doing just that when Trump was in office? Last I checked, the whole kneeling thing on the national anthem started because of you! I'm sorry, I don't want to hear them bitching about it. If they hate it so much, go watch your pathetic NASCAR then, where it basically is all-white. This is getting pathetic.
In It to Win It
(12,651 posts)Even when no one is kneeling or protesting in some way, they find politics in something or insert it where none exists.

(1,527 posts)Depending on the source, the NFL has up to 70% of players who are black, the NBA up to 73% are black. How many African-American players do you see in the MLB, NHL, or NASCAR? Not many. It just seems very telling that the sports they complain of being "woke" have the most players that are African American. What does that tell you?

(1,527 posts)Remember the whole kneeling during the national anthem controversy when Colin Kaepernick did it? These same people, along with Trump, wanted to fire anyone who did that. But these are the same people screaming "woke" and say politics should not be in sports. Well gee, I wonder who started the whole thing. But the point is, all the time when the "Black National Anthem" gets played, they get in a knot about it, saying we should only do the "Star Spangled Banner" even though it in of itself was written when slavery was still going on. By the way, the SSB was based on a song called "To Anacreon in Heaven". I am just really really tired of hearing them complain every year when the Super Bowl goes on. Why are they watching it then?
