I remember stories of the same thing happening to random people going back 10 years or so...one of the reasons I've never used them.
The only thing they were ever useful for was as an online wallet you could transfer bank funds to, before visa debit and pre-paid credit cards came to be. Now they're just a robbery waiting to happen.
