(102,790 posts)Anymore. Dems have the government and shit is going to change. Last night was a good example of how that's going to happen.
I am glad for Michigan, it's been a long time coming.

(24,207 posts)A Red Flag law bill is already in committee. That bill may have prevented this very shooter from getting to keep his guns after he was arrested on a gun charge.

(9,090 posts)it's fucking absurd for these 87 universities to keep ignoring their mission statements and continue to broadcast sports on 260+ rw radio stations as well as numerous others that didn't headline Limbaugh.
if mich dems want real reform it will be a lot easier if they get the MSU and UM to stop supporting the NRA!
fakenewsradio.org
uni of mich supports 7....
all those stations comfort the NRA and blame liberal laws, mental illness (duh - but they will always oppose legislation/ programs to decrease the problem), lack of security, 'defunding' cops, we need more guns, etc
uni of florida supports 10 that did it for parkland and other mass shootings and now all support desantis and his hate and paranoia, which will feed more shootings.
uni of syracuse, 150 miles from buffalo, supports 9 rw radio stations that did the same after that mass shooting.
they all also call BLM a terrorist org, kneeling athletes unAmerican, and they have all spread the 'replacement theory' lies about dems helping immigrants vote illegally, etc, for decades to push their voter suppression legislation

(2,809 posts)I'm contracted for work in an area I jokingly call "radio-free Arizona". 2 radio stations come in clearly: a Navajo nation station, interesting, sometimes has local news and native chants, preaches God all day Sunday. I have it on a portable 📻 to calm my dog in his "kennel" (truck camper shell)
Sadly, the other one is Fox. No NPR selection here.
Now generally these natives don't tend towards much outward expression of their politics. But it remains a "red" County sadly voting so ironically against their own interests.

(9,090 posts)to use AI to get talk radio digitized analyzed and included in the free speech spectrum. until then the analysts are analyzing fish without water.
in rural america there are no alts and even in cities there are few or none as far as dedicated to politics.
NPR does not 'compete' with that crap like hartmann, rhodes, etc would

(17,617 posts)I marched in the Million Mom March in the year 2000. We marched to the Capitol in Lansing. The stairs up to the Capitol were lined with a pair of shoes for every person that had died in Michigan at the hands of a gun. There were marchers that were men and children too. That fat ass Engler was governor, so it made no difference. And here we are 23 years later in an even worse situation.
I can only hope that because we have women in charge and Dems in control of the legislature, that we can finally make some progress.
Fuck those gun humping men who need a gun to make them feel manly.

(13,018 posts)Bang Bang Barbie, Palin, the female Santos just elected in Florida, and many more. Men do the killing but many women are running for and getting elected glamorizing guns. And helping to stop any gun laws. Lets not forget the Dakota gun humping Gov. Guns raise money, and win elections.
And no amount of horror seems to change any minds.
Start showing the blood and brain matter and blown up heads on the news.
Those 5 hospitalized yesterday, as well as ALL the victims that dont die just get forgotten.
Those people can lose limbs, functioning brains, organs and be paralyzed for life. As well as billions racked up in medical bills. What are the numbers of Injured, show them as much as we do the dead numbers.
You can lose a fucking arm, and your shooter can be a hero taking in cash for his murders and be on Fox News as a Patriot.
God blessing America. That white male God that, with all his magical powers, (or all the cash he raises) cant protect a single person from the hell on earth in America.

(90,017 posts)HAVE TO. It's not a choice. And to say it's a matter of life and death is NOT an exaggeration OR attempted scare tactic. It's the brutal reality of these times.
I want to get rid of ALL - repeat, ALL - the guns. ALL OF 'EM. I just haven't yet figured out how.

(39 posts)passes someday, and all the democrats turn them in, and the republicans sit back and laugh. Thats when the round ups begin in earnest. And then what? The republicans already tell everyone that they wont turn in anything. Im surprised the republicans havent pushed for a ban and turn in. When they do, you know what happens next.

(2,504 posts)And universal background check. Those are the ones wirh the most support and easiest to pass. My understanding from talking with others who are far more tuned into Michigan politics then I, any gun control law will still be a heavy lift, even with full Dem control. And some proposals, like an assault weapons ban, magazine capacity limit, etc, are likely going nowhere.

(40,365 posts)At the last zoom meeting, proposed legislation was discussed. The Democrats narrow margin in the state legislature limits what can be expected.

(18,426 posts)they don't let guns into their public meetings.
Until Americans prioritize voting to get rid of the gun lobby and guns from everyday abuse, they are choosing some stupid words over children and other innocent being slaughtered too often

(6,252 posts)Deny them the right to ban guns at their meetings. Public meetings are subject to public laws. Let them feel the fear.

(36,631 posts)Any weapon beyond a single shot hunting tool needs regulating (based on the part of the 2nd Amendment that the Extreme Cult completely ignores). The farther beyond the capability of a flint-lock musket, the more the weapon needs regulation -- licensing, insurance, training requirements should all go up as the killing capacity goes up.
