Ohio Governor Mike DeWine (R) broke with his states junior U.S. Senator, J.D. Vance, on Monday of the latters harsh criticism of the Biden administration over the response to the train derailment in East Palestine, which resulted in the release of toxic fumes.
Senator Vance is on Fox News, critical of the Biden administration, even some Democrats have been critical of the Biden administration in response. Are you satisfied with the Biden administrations response? And is there anything youd like to see more out of the administration as far as help with this? a reporter asked DeWine.
Look, our Ohio EPA works with the U.S. EPA. These are the principal people involved. The federal government is conducting an investigation to determine why this wreck occurred, this crash occurred. We await that and certainly will be interested in seeing what was going on, the Republican replied, adding:
You know, look, the president called me and said, Anything you need. I have not called him back after that conversation. I will not hesitate to do that if were seeing a problem or anything. But Im not seeing it.
We are ruled by unserious people who are worried about fake problems instead of the real fact that our country is falling apart in some of the most important ways, Vance told Tucker Carlson on Monday night.
The leaders of this country have decided to disregard the people of East Palestine, Vance added. DeWine, who as governor is actually involved in directing the relief effort, broke very clearly with Vance by announcing Biden offered anything you need.

(29,626 posts)They both frustrate me, because they show how it CAN work when. a Republican who's got at least a semblance of a conscience can help get things done.
Then they flip -DeWine with women's issues, Chris Christie with BridgeGate and hitching his wagon to Trump.
How Chris Christie can reconcile his love of Bruce Springsteen with his political views is beyond me.

(19,672 posts)for being honest in this one small statement.
Doesn't mean I think he's a good guy or even generally honest. Just that he told the truth on this one thing. This one time.
He's still a Republican, which means a lot of things, none of them good.

(18,579 posts)On the Senate floor yesterday. He joined a group of Republicans blocking the aisle. Others had trouble getting past them to vote. Not one of them apologized for blocking,or offered to move. They were still there when I switched. Rude boors!

Dewine "sees no problem" as a result of this enormous toxic spill & fire?
Maybe he should go live there!!

(18,579 posts)Butt to get elected. Now he is doing the same to Biden because he and Mitch want more infrastructure money.

(40,520 posts)Dumpy (who Vance thinks is fit for another Presidential term) promised an infrastructure bill for four years and we got nuthin.
I guess he thinks culture wars and the concerns of his new found best buds Green, Gaetz, and Dumbobert are more important.
Grudging kudos to Dewine for his situational honesty.
I think that whenever Vance makes a statement, he calls Trump up first and asks him, what do you want me to say?

I'm down river from the trainwreck. Weirton, WV detected chemicals in theriver, so switched to an alternate source. https://www.wtrf.com/weirton/officials-say-weirton-water-back-to-normal-operations-after-chemical-spill-in-ohio-river/
Just read that Steubenville, Ohio detected chemicals in their water: https://www.wtrf.com/jefferson-county/ohio-city-says-butyl-acrylate-tested-positive-in-water-intake/
Another update, animals and fish are sick and dying in the area of the train wreck, spill and controlled burn. https://www.insider.com/animals-sick-dying-after-ohio-train-derailment-caused-chemical-leak-2023-2
I am in Marietta, and expecting a wave of polluted water.

j.d. vance isn't even that other guy's real name. He was born james donald bowman. He's a smarmy 'venture capitalist' out for what he can grift and contributes nothing to humanity.

(40,520 posts)I hope that you folks down there dont face a huge environmental disaster. Its going to take months and months before SE Ohio gets any answers. I hope and pray all of you will escape any major catastrophe.
Im 25 miles north of E. Palestine but we get our drinking water from a reservoir.
Vance makes me sick and I get even sicker thinking about how we could have had Ryan.

Thanks for the good thoughts. Glad you are north of the trainwreck! I guess the tradeoff for living by a river in the U.S. is knowing the waterway is probably abused.

This is a media event, driven by the vast ignorance of journalists of basic science and their propensity to ramp up terror to sell newspapers and/or produce click bait.
I repeat my favorite mantra: I suspect one cannot get a degree in journalism if one has passed a college level science course with a grade of C or better.

(41,544 posts)The EPA has almost no power to hold anyone's feet to the fire any more. It's a joke to say the EPA should do this or that. That group can't even organize a press release, how could they possibly fix the huge problems with rail safety? I'm guessing the Ohio EPA probably has more power to fine these railroad shippers than the federal EPA has.
Obama and Dems put through a bill for transportation safety over 10 years ago. But Chump and the Repukes came in and demolished the new law the first chance they got. J.D. Vance had better STFU and go back to school.
