(114,032 posts)Of course, she was quite beautiful but had a great sense of humor too. Her acting roles might not be Oscar-worthy, but she wasn't without ability.

I remember when we moved to my then husband's hometown of La Jolla, California and he said Raquel Welsh was born here. That was in the early '70s.

(28,398 posts)She had a relationship with the camera as only a very few Hollywood actors and actresses had. All she had to do was show up she didnt have to say a word or act.

(72,229 posts)in the Richard Lester "Musketeer" films was one-of-a-kind. She was so beautiful and radiant in the role, it's like she was lit from within.
A staggeringly lovely, highly under-rated actress.

(633 posts)So sad to hear! I was very young when she was a sex symbol but I grew up seeing her as a gorgeous woman!
After reading that she passed on this DU post, I went to wiki to read more about her life. She had auditioned for the role of Mary Ann on Gilligan's Island! Can you even imagine both her AND Tina Louise on the same show?! Does not make sense. I always thought of those two as being very similar to each other. No wonder Raquel did not get the part!

It took a long time for me to realize what a truly beautiful lady she was on the inside as well as the outside. RIP, Raquel. You were one of a kind!

(1,067 posts)Rachel Welch was the last of three movie starlets that helped cover Andy Dufrense tunnel. The first one being Rita Hayworth which is the actual name of the novella. The second poster was Marilyn Monroe. The first movie I saw her in was Fantastic Journey. As an adult male I watched that movie and I wondered how she ever fit into the uniform they made her wear for that movie. My impression of her was that she was smart and had a great sense of humor. I am getting old.

(17,388 posts)the mileposts of my life has left. She may not have been the most talented actor, but she sure made a big splash in the American culture pool. May she Rest In Peace and continue her journey in the next dimension.

(17,598 posts)I saw it when it came out and was so enthusiastic that women could sky dive!!! I was about ten and ran around for weeks with my shirts tied up exposing a bare mid drift like Raquel had done in that movie.
Raquel, my imitation of your shirt style was simple flattery although it sure looked a lot better on you than on me. She was a brick HOUSE!!!
Thanks for the memory and may you Rest In Peace.

(6,492 posts)beautiful and talented. Appreciated that she never became tawdry...stayed classy. One of my favorite films she appeared in was The Last of Sheila, a twisty murder mystery that was clever with a solid cast.

Your "sorry" is suspect and snark is completely what you were going for.
