Most of Latin America - with the exception of the Chile-Argentina-Uruguay southern cone and a few others - has among the highest murder rates in the world.

And Repugs often cite that as "evidence gun control don't work!"

But of course, said laws are not well-enforced in those countries - where a simple bribe can often get any cop/gendarme to look the other way (when they're not in on the gun traffic themselves).

To say nothing of gross inequality - with upscale gated communities or condos often abutting fetid slums.

The “northern triangle” of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador are particularly violent, largely due to gangs.

Though not without its problems (prostitution, among them), Costa Rica has always been among the best-run countries in Latin America.
