I think the OP was accurate with their statement:

“Well, I haven’t made that decision. I haven’t released anything,” Feinstein said.
A Feinstein staffer then interjected, telling her that they put out a press release with her retirement statement.

“You put out the statement?” she asked, adding a few seconds later, “I should’ve known they put it out.”
“It is what it is. The time is come,” Feinstein continued.
The five-term senator is a groundbreaking woman in American political history.

2. She was unaware that they had already RELEASED it, not that it had been written.

And she IMMEDIATELY pivoted to both acknowledge that was her plan to leave at the end of her term and not seek reelection AND to make the most of her time left. Now, she may have some "issues," but she is still able to make a quick pivot, when surprised, and to say all the right things. That is something many 1/4 her age cannot do.

So, I won't condone the attacks on her.
