On yesterday's episode of the Politics War Room podcast, Carville asked Alred outright if he's planning on running for senate againt Ted Cruz. He responded by saying Cruz has to go and why (sounded like a campaign speech) and didn't say yes or no. But his language and tone seemed very interested.
I think he would be as close to the perfect Turn Texas Blue candidate as we'll find. (I'm in East TX).

(96,882 posts)In 2018, Cruz beat O'Rourke by 2%. In almost any State that would be a close race. But, given the number of votes cast in Texas, that's a margin to overcome of more than 200,000 votes.
I'm not getting my hopes up that a local Congressman will do that well in a Statewide race.
Colin is the best candidate we can get for the job of eliminating Cruz. He's smart, articulate, well educated and good looking (which always helps).

A member of the Democratic Party, he is the U.S. representative from Texas's 32nd congressional district. The district includes the northeastern corner of Dallas, as well as many of its northeastern suburbs, such as Garland, Richardson, Sachse, Wylie, the Park Cities, and Rowlett.
Allred is a lawyer and former linebacker who played for the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League (NFL). He left football to pursue a degree in law, receiving his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by positions in both the Obama administration[1] and the U.S. Attorney's office.[2]
After his football career, Allred enrolled in law school. After receiving his J.D. degree from the UC Berkeley School of Law in 2014,[6] he worked as a special assistant in the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of General Counsel alongside then-Secretary Julian Castro in the Obama administration.[8]
Subsequently, Allred worked as an attorney at the Perkins Coie law firm, where he was a voting rights litigator and counsel to clients including national and state political candidates and advocacy organizations.[8][9]
