Why? Because he used lawyers, politicians, and cabinet members to commit crimes for him. We have an AG who is an institutionalist who will weigh what an indictment would do to the institution. It is why he indicted Steve Bannon (nothing to Trump) and Peter Navarro (just a trade advisor) and wouldn't indict Mark Meadows (Chief of Staff) and Dan Scavino. (Deputy Chief of staff)
Using those people also made it hard to get through subpoenas which fell into Trump's strategy of delay.
Beetwasher.
(3,178 posts)And he's been protected by lawyers and loopholes, there's nothing genius about it. It's low cunning and a propensity to be completely shameless with no sense of moral, ethics, propriety or empathy.

And starting at the bottom of that list and trying to flip everyone on the way up is damn near impossible. Al Capone went to jail for taxes. Not because of all the people he had killed.
Justice matters.

So, since nothing ever happens, he keeps on committing tax frauds, insurance frauds, bank frauds and worse... and still nothing happens to his "Freedumb" to commit more crimes...

(4,913 posts)The man is ignorant as hell. He is foolish as hell and he is dumb as hell. Using millions of dollars HANDED to him by daddy to surround himself with corrupt lawyers is not the work of genius. He gets caught at everything and lawyers have to bail him out. It worked during his business career. It worked when he was president because the office, corrupt AG protected him. What Trump is facing now is a whole different ballgame.
The lawyers who protect him are not going to save him this time. They are hiring lawyers to try and save themselves.
Trump without money and lawyers is an imbecile.

Youve forgotten about the due process concept of discovery, havent you?
Indicting Meadows and Scavino, who were much more deeply involved in the coup planning than Bannon and Navarro, for contempt would trigger discovery, where the defendants would gain access to all the evidence DOJ had on them, which they could then share with other co-conspirators, whether indicted or not.
You forgot about this in your rush to blast Garland for being an institutionalist, didnt you?
Just because Garland smartly chose not to sabotage his entire investigation for a charge that carries a max 1 year sentence, does not prove he wont seek indictments for more serious charges at a later date.

(32,335 posts)why don't you want to see Trump and his cronies indicted?
Answer me this, it was a question asked by Adam Schiff, "why is Fani Willis so far ahead of DOJ?"

(23,240 posts)Even if it were true, would you support indicting Meadows for contempt now, knowing he could provide evidence to Trump, not only giving Trump a head start on strategizing his defense while the contempt case drags through the courts, but could also give Trump information on which witnesses he should threaten?
There appears to be a lot of information regarding Trumps Super PAC, and its link to funding the Big Lie and January 6 that has yet to surface clearly and completely.
I look forward to the day we can actually say we know everything about Trumps crimes, but today isnt that day.

(56,198 posts)Yes, like any ordinary crime boss, he surrounds himself with people who he makes sure commit crimes so that he can ensure loyalty to him.
But an actually clever mob boss makes sure to never personally commit crimes, or at least to make sure they would be very difficult to trace back to them personally.
Not so with Donnie, because he's an incredibly arrogant, privileged, evil fück. He commits crime left and right. He just is really good at leveraging privilege to get away with it.

(32,335 posts)why didn't Merrick Garland indict "individual one?"
Surely everyone here is upset that Garland chose not to indict because of politics, not because he didn't have a slam dunk case.
Am I right, bad move by Garland?

And your incessant demands that he agrees with you, which you lately seem to be consistently couching in bizarre, "I'm trying to help you!!1!" bullshit are absolutely creepy.
At this point, I seriously wonder if you and your friend are capable of "letting him be."

(61,033 posts)And it was inherited and stolen money (some from his dead brother's estate), so he's no genius.
Now if he was a self-made multi-millionaire that would be one thing, but that's not the case. In fact, if he had just put the money in index funds and let it accrue interest, he's be better off now and wouldn't have gone through several bankruptcies RUNNING CASINOS FOR GOD'S SAKE.
So no, he's no genius.

(17,577 posts)We just need a bigger genius
wink, wink! Thats half the problem in getting Trump. One has to wade into the gray area, and so far no one in the DOJ has been willing to do that.
Its way past time to play Trumps games. We need a bigger genius, a bigger asshole and someone who understands that NO ONE a should be above the law.
I dont see that happening.
