If you're getting some weird contrary responses to your postings, check to see if the person has any postings of their own. I've found a few with no postings, which seems an oddity to me.

no posting indicated in their profile, something is off. Some kind of glitch. It should at least indicate one posting. I have seen some weird things in looking at profiles, including posts from 1969.
Scrivener7
(59,838 posts)That IS weird!!
The 1969 posts - I've always assumed that was a glitch about people who have posts from an earlier version of DU.
But thank you for explaining! Have a great day.

(11,203 posts)I also have begun using ignore more for posters that seem to argue a bit like AI. Using ignore has really helped my experience. Explaining a contrarian position is fine. Agreeing to disagree is fine. Not letting it go, I often find tedious.
Also, I rarely start threads myself, but have been a member and posted since Air America days. Didn't post much for a few years when I was more active on Twitter. Stopped Twitter last year and returned more to DU.
Scrivener7
(59,838 posts)because they will not agree with your opinion.
That is really a slimy, vile new development.

(17,668 posts)Also seeing a lot of nobody asked you comebacks when discussing issues such as indictments, etc.
Of course, no one in a prosecutors office any where ASKS for input from a message board. Not sure why that seems to be brought into a discussion. We discuss here. We arent insiders or participants in the legal proceedings.
So much of the stuff just mucks up having a real back and forth exchange of ideas.

(59,838 posts)suggesting a poster was mentally ill because of his position on a discussion topic.
What a sick thing to do.
Hope your day is a good one, Jill!

(17,668 posts)It seems that there is a lot of smoke being thrown around to try to minimize some opinions. I see the same swarm of posters come every time certain topics come up. They seem to think its their way or not at all.
Hope you have a good one, too, Scrivener!

Occasionally, DU gets glitchy. They do tend to fix it pretty fast. This is lasting a long time though. I know they are working on a new version of the website, so maybe it's related to that.

(11,881 posts)Most likely when I've had issues with someone with a low post count, it's generally a troll. Thank you for our wonderful MIRT team for taking care of business.
However, I've been the target of several long-term members abuse and toxic behavior, which violates DU's TOS. I don't care how long that particular DU has been a member here, they directly go to my full ignore list.
Do not personally attack, insult, flame, threaten, bully, harass, stalk, negatively call-out, ascribe ugly ulterior motives to, or make baseless claims about any member of this community. Do not post in a manner that is hostile, abusive, or aggressive toward any member of this community.
Why we have this rule: Civility begets quality discussions. Democratic Underground members are highly passionate about politics which means discussions can get heated -- but they don't need to get nasty. There's no reason why a community of intelligent adults who agree on a majority of political issues can't have a conversation without insulting each other or resorting to other anti-social behaviors.

(6,486 posts)to be able to determine if they have been placed on ignore list(s) and, maybe even with reasons why. Such IMO might be helpful for introspection purposes and may result in more reasoned and civil discussion & debate.
Now, I'm not saying the IDs of those who have placed you on an ignore list should be made available but maybe just the number of times one is placed on someone's ignore list (and possibly with reasons) would suffice.

(59,838 posts)We also used to be able to see hidden posts in a poster's profile. I think the admins tend to want to calm the waters and I get the impression those features didn't do that.
Once we had a "Meta" forum. That place was like Thunderdome. Fun as hell, but appealed to all of our worst natures. I'm glad it's gone but I miss the entertainment of it.
GusBob
(8,270 posts)But I participate in discussions. I also read every reply before I participate, and after. I dont think thats too common. This place has become twitterfied, less discussion
When I was a low count poster, it was often insinuated I was a troll
And made to feel unwelcome if you posted a contrary word I have learned to keep strong opinions to myself
There are some very wise contrarians here in my opinion. One of late is killing with the common sense, hes awesome
Another One was often against the group think and often right. He or she was hated, ridiculed and no longer posts here

And I'm going to give it to you.
I didn't now what to do. Was it against rules or was it just how I looked at it? Anyhow, I wrote down the name and went back to make sure I had it right, but it was deleted, the name is still there though.
