I was a waitress at the hotel/restaurant the national reporters were staying at. A group of four sat at my table and ordered drinks. They likely had been at it for awhile. One reporter, who shall remain nameless, didn't like his martini and rudely sent it back. When I returned with the new drink, I set it down gently before him and said sweetly, "Here you go, Mr. Rather.' The other three roared with laughter. He wasn't Dan Rather. They didn't leave me a tip, but it was worth it.

His heart is past recovery, but he still enjoys life now that he doesn't feel as bad as he did before hospice began. Dad's 96.

But for my mother who had first had a stroke, then a heart attack caused by a-fib, she had less than three days in hospice care before she passed.

Guinea Worm Eradication Program

Jan. 24, 2023 | Guinea Worm Disease Reaches All-Time Low: Only 13* Human Cases Reported in 2022 »

Request for Pre-proposals

The Carter Center's Guinea Worm Eradication Program is requesting pre-proposals. Read the requirements »
Our Goal

Since 1986, The Carter Center has led the international campaign to eradicate Guinea worm disease, working closely with ministries of health and local communities, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and many others.

https://www.cartercenter.org/health/guinea_worm/index.html

Guinea worm disease could become the second human disease in history, after smallpox, to be eradicated. It would be the first parasitic disease to be eradicated and the first disease to be eradicated without the use of a vaccine or medicine.

Sat Feb 18, 2023, 07:35 PM
Feb 2023

When we transferred our house to a family trust, the deed had to be charged from our name to the name of the trust.

Carter sold all his stock and transferred his interest in the farm to a blind trust he had no control over, unlike the trust Trump set up.

And yes, he wasn't made to do it in the sense that he was ordered by a court to do that, he felt compelled to do it to avoid any appearance of impropriety, because Republicans were already squealing about supposed conflicts of interest before he even won election. Then the GOP investigated for 6 months anyway.

But not a peep from the GOP about Trumps brazen conflicts of interest.

125. Not all title changes are sales.
Sat Feb 18, 2023, 10:00 PM
Feb 2023

A trust has a lot of purposes. It is a way of parceling out different interests in the property, and of providing continuity of legal title even when the owners of the beneficial interest die. My parents' farmland is all in trust - they are the sole beneficiaries, and have full control of the property (they are both trustees and beneficiaries). Having property in the trust, for them, is benecial because it eliminates the need for a probate in a different state when they die. That is likely similar to yoru family trust.

The Carters' use of a trust is different - they did it for purposes of transferring the managerial control, but not the equitable interest in the property.

But neither of those are the same as selling. Selling transfers both the legal and equitable interests to another party (in exchange for a payment).

he would be here forever.

But after 98 years of being a good role model for humanity and of giving service to everyone around him, he can let go now with honor and peace of mind.

How difficult for Rosalynn now after so many years together.

A man to remember.

My father, of blessed memory, had hospice care at home with my mom, now also of blessed memory. My sisters and I took turns staying with them, so at least one of us was always there. He had the best of care and we had a year of grace with him before he died. He died peacefully, holding my mom’s hand, watching his beloved Badgers playing football. I treasure every moment our family had together.

President Carter has his faith, his family, and the love and respect of millions to comfort him as he makes this transition on his way home to glory over Jordan. Angels watch over him, his family, and all who love him.

I don’t believe Mr. Carter was “sent home” to hospice care. He chose this. Big differencer.

I'm on the older end of Gen X. I remember seeing Nixon resign and crying "Why don't they just give him another chance!?" because he looked so sad.

I think I was 9 when Carter was elected. I was sad for Gerald Ford because he reminded me of my Grandpa. But I grew to love Jimmy Carter because he was a peanut farmer and he had a daughter my age.

I was sad when Carter lost because he was so gentle and kind. I never liked Reagan. By then I was 13 and knew a bastard when I saw one.

and three years younger than my father's mother when she died.

Age sneaks up on you. My parents are actively planning for when they will no longer be around, and my grandmother was ready to go when she died. At this age, the pain and angst belong not to those leaving, but to those left behind.

Long before President Carter started getting rightful accolades for his humanitarian work and most people just viewed him as a failed one-term President. He always talked about his humility and ability to do right and good and be truthful even when it wasn’t convenient.

Luckily my dad got to meet him several years ago at one of his Sunday School sessions.

Couldn’t think of a better hero to extol virtues for your own kids.

Saddened but not devastated. If this news was that he had passed suddenly, without any warning, that would have been a gut punch, to me anyway. This is more of a gentle reminder that a very old man is nearing the end of a life filled with kindness, love, and humanitarian service.

He's still with us for a while yet, and we have some time to prepare ourselves for the inevitable. Saying goodbye to him when the time comes will be incredibly hard, but we don't have to do it quite yet. In the meantime, let us celebrate this life that has been so long and so well-lived, and wish for him a peaceful departure.

I'm sure it was a combination of fatigue, a beer, and sadness but it really hit me hard.

Here's a good, good man who's been vilified since Day One by assholes. And they'll get their last licks in over the next few weeks. We were lucky to have him has President and luckier to have watched after he left office.

It's a shame the hateful pricks won't learn from him.

Just joking. Obama was the greatest president of my lifetime, Jimmy Carter was the best. He’s just not a good, he’s the best.

The U.S. is fortunate to be led by two great men like these.

And not to slight Joe Biden, but he’s only had two years of presidential greatness so far. Give him time. 😂😂
