From a Ukrainian trench in the middle of a firefight

My Ukrainian neighbor showed me a scene sent to him yesterday from the front lines (somewhere). The noise from the guns was almost deafening, and he said it was two Ukrainians holding off ten Russians. There was one Russian soldier rushing the trench and getting shot down by the defenders maybe fifty feet away, maybe less. He said the two Ukrianians won out, the Russians being either killed or fleeing. This was rather gruesome to watch in real time.

Again--these reports need to be viewed im the light of a Ukrainian combat vet (Afghanistan, 40 years ago) who had nothing but disdain for the Russians he fought with in Afghanistan, and whose homeland is being pounded by Russian destruction right now. But the cell phone clip he showed me sure as hell was no scene that was set up in advance, and the Russian I saw getting shot down was no puppet. He was waving his gun around, looking for a target that already had him in their sights, as he found out a second later.

I know Putin doesn't give a rat's ass, but I wish scenes like this could be played back to the Russians with the note "This was someone's son. Tomorrow, it xould be yours. Is conquering the Ukraine for Russia more important to you than the next young man's life?"

The Ukrainians are fighting for their home. The Russians are fighting for Putin's power and wealth, even though many of them either refuse to acknowledge it, or are too drunk to notice. Does anyone even need to ask whose is the greater motivation?

I saw that. It's sad. Russia is fighting by essentially just sending waves of soldiers to die. Oneironaut Feb 2023 #3

His definitely did not have the British Intelligence logo visible, and I think there was more constant shooting and the Russian lasted a second or two longer, but I only saw it once. If not the same scene, iz's definitely a similar one, for sure. I'll bet this gets repeated somewhere on the front every day.

The “Russian” soldiers you are seeing are not Russian but conscripted folks from the non Russian Republics or convicts. Putin has been pretty careful not to pull too many men from ethic Russian areas. Anyway, he certainly isn’t pulling folks from the Russian elites only the lower classes of unconnected and powerless.

I heard without Ukrain, ethnic Russians would be a minority of the total “Russian” population.

Using 20th century tactics in the 21st century is madness.

There are worse videos out there, sadly, such as first person (GoPro) views of people from both sides being shot and killed. I wouldn’t recommend watching them, tbh.

It’s easy to get lost in numbers, but, every one of them is a life lost and a family ruined.
