Dallas based home goods retailer Tuesday Morning closing half its stores nationwide

https://www.sfgate.com/local/article/tuesday-morning-closing-stores-17793941.php

A discount home goods retailer is closing the majority of its stores in California — and more than half of its locations nationwide — after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week.

It’s the second time Tuesday Morning has filed for bankruptcy protection in three years. Challenges from the pandemic including temporary closures and employee furloughs forced the Dallas-headquartered company to shutter more than 200 of its nearly 700 stores in 2020.

In a statement released Tuesday, CEO Andrew Berger said the company is still facing an “exceedingly burdensome debt” and needs to restructure and optimize its store footprint to retain a viable business. According to the company’s website, 263 of Tuesday Morning’s approximately 490 locations “in low-traffic regions” are slated for closure; 31 out of 37 stores in California are now expected to shutter.

Pending closures in the Bay Area include locations at Redwood Gateway in Petaluma, at San Marin Plaza in Novato and on Blossom Hill Road in San Jose. Other stores slated for closure statewide include those in Glendora, Clovis, Rancho Cucamonga, Redlands, Redding, Riverside, Fountain Valley, San Diego, Granada Hills, Carlsbad, Modesto, La Verne, Woodland Hills, Torrance, Camarillo, Chico, Palm Desert, Ventura, Citrus Heights, Lakewood, Bakersfield, Roseville, Folsom, Orange, Santa Monica and El Cajon.

had no idea how they stayed open. before COVID, wasnt even sure what a Tuesday morning was. I would describe as a lower cost Home Goods store.

But I was never a frequent shopper, and the COVID lockdown killed my desire to shop.

the mall where "back to the future" was filmed barely has any stores left.

Once a mall loses its last anchor store, it's over. All the thriving malls still have an anchor... Macys.

...about 30 miles east of us.
Looking for Chanel #5 as a Christmas present for my wife, I went to the JCP listed ON THEIR WEBSITE as having at the Sephora inside their store.
So, I went there.
Not only was the store closed but, there was no mall!! Razed to the ground. Just one gigantic parking lot.
I went to another mall 20 miles north of there. It's still a thriving mall.
And, exactly as you said, the anchor store was Macy's.

some have tried alternative anchors like putting a Forever 21 in the anchor spot, didn't work. Using Targets as anchors seems to work better.

The local mall in my town was razed last year, after most of the stores went under or bugged out. One "anchor" store, Belk, is still standing, but otherwise, every last brick is gone. The area is about to become an open-air shopping center and condominium complex. The same thing is going on at the local mall near my sister's house in Phoenix. It's weird not having a mall around, but rarely went there, anyway. After Sears left, I never could find what I was looking for there.

The stores would vary from junky to wonderful.

When i would find one i spent a fair amount(for me) of money at them
Not into home furnishings so i was never the target market.

I would plan to do some xmas shopping at them and then i would find the store was gone....
Last purchase was my airfryer that i use daily and totally love

Just checked. There are only 8 in Illinois and there's only one less than 60 miles from here.
Five of those 8 are closing. I'm not sure if all 8 were open before this latest round.
