in New York, Chicago and Illinois?
The police departments were once the blue wall between black communities and white islands. White conservatives used the police as the club to beat down dark-skinned neighborhoods and keep them in their place. Supreme Court Justice Scalia weaponized them by giving them legal interpretations of the law that allowed them to shake black people down in their own neighborhoods. And this philosophy of allowed corruption and abusive behavior became so ingrained in the training, that today it does not matter if a policeman is white or black. The mindset behind the badge, is broken.
We know this from real life evidence. Tragic clashes with the police suggests that there is major work to be done. But, at least we have people seeing it from both perspectives. As President Biden said in his speech, The police have the right to get safely home at night, but so does everybody else.
And, then, here comes De Santis who is going to stoke up the racists in the police departments. From what I saw, he spoke to small crowds that were mostly white men, and he was pushing against woke policies, which means he wants to peel back the awareness that we now have about the problem. It sounds like his plan is to go back to the 1950s when the police could beat down dark skinned citizens and get away with the result. I would put money down that De Santis will make a ruling to shut off the body cameras, since they won't be necessary in his version of America.
I suggest we out him now to make people aware that his version of America is not going to work in today's America, at least not without a lot of bloodshed on both sides. That's why I was alarmed that he selected the police in large urban areas to begin his national tour, because it's obvious to me that a race war is what he's counting on.

(96,043 posts)Turn-out hasn't been good so far, and police unions already are irredeemably fascist bodies now. Still, great oaks, little acorns, Mao started with a half dozen fellows in an upstairs tea-room --- there's things worth keeping an eye on.
