Proud Boys cooperator Jeremy Bertino on the witness stand. Jurors hear "Stand Back & Stand By" again

Carrie Johnson @johnson_carrie
Prosecutor Erik Kenerson has just called Proud Boys cooperator Jeremy Bertino to the witness stand. Bertino pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy and a weapons charge and agreed to cooperate with the DOJ probe.

Jurors are now hearing, again, Donald Trump's "stand back and stand by" remarks about the Proud Boys in a 2020 debate. "At first stunned, and then excited," witness Jeremy Bertino says of his reaction. "I thought it was going to grow the club exponentially at that point."

That debate moment was "pretty much the only topic of discussion for the next few days," among Proud Boys in chat groups, Jeremy Bertino says. He says recruiting "went out of control, there was nonstop emails...they just kept pouring in."

By Nov. 7, 2020, when media orgs called the election for Joe Biden, witness Jeremy Bertino texted Enrique Tarrio talking about need to "mobilize" and perhaps to go to state capitals. "I believed we were supposed to be leaders of the country, of the right wing, tip of the spear."

After the jury leaves, Judge Kelly says Jeremy Bertino's view of the Proud Boys' role in the post-election period "strikes me as relevant." The judge adds, "the man pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy. He needs to be able to explain how he ended up in that place."

Isn't it weird how all the little Proud Boys got the same takeaway from his words, and weren't persuaded otherwise by any after-the-fact rationalizations.

geared up for 'all out revolution' on J6. Also we find that they may have instigated conflicts with antifa/blm, not just reacted. This is from a former PB who has already pled guilty and is testifying for the govt.

Still wanting to hear more about testimony from a couple of weeks ago that the 'campaign' told the PB leader that they shouldn't wear their identifying 'colors' or clothes. Who at the campaign were they talking to?

Also still missing discussion of their Willard roles and details about Roger Stone. Perhaps they are out of scope for these particular charges, but seems important IMHO
