(89,289 posts)Ive said it already but it still holds:
Im so glad these tributes are all happening for him while hes still around to see it all, and enjoy it, and be warned by it.
Many of us were impatient with him when he was President. He didnt this or that enough - the economy didnt this or that enough. And great accomplishments like the Camp David Accords were shrugged off as somehow not quite as significant as the price of eggs or a pound of coffee.
Yet he soldiered on, and achieved what he could with a contrarian Congress and voting population. He left the proverbial house a little better than he found it, and handed an improved America to a plastic hair-dyed slick-talking forked-tongued actor who made sure only the haves were well cared for, and everybody below them in stature or income could just eat hope and ad campaigns and Hollywood celebrity for dinner.
Im proud I was never taken in by the manufactured Reagan baloney, but Im sorry I wasnt as active or enthusiastic a Carter warrior as I should have been. Even so, I still voted for him both times - a decision that looks better and far more moral than ever as the years pass.

(9,303 posts)Unless you could have figured out a way to remove Anderson from the ballot before the election, his reelection was doomed. (And of course I mean a moral and legal way.)

(1,230 posts)And thank you for ending with the two about Jimmy Carter.
I posted this yesterday, but it bears repeating. If you would like to send the Carters words of encouragement and appreciation, the Carter Center has a link to do so. Im sure they will welcome any donations as well.

Donations to your local Habitat for Humanity are another good way to honor President Carter.
Thank you for your kind consideration of my request.
