Deborah Dorbert was excited to be a mom again.
When Roe v. Wade was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court, and Florida banned abortions after 15 weeks, she did not think it would affect her.
Never thought I would be stuck right in the middle of it she said.
At her 23-week appointment, she said her obstetrician noticed an abnormality. It was confirmed a week later by a maternal-fetal medicine doctor. Her baby had Potter syndrome.
Dorberts pediatrician, Dr. David Berger, explained to Nexstars WFLA that the fetus is not developing kidneys or making amniotic fluid. Without amniotic fluid, the babys lungs will not develop correctly.
Im in a lot of pain and discomfort, said Dorbert.

OP
Her fetus has ZERO chance of survival. It will suffocate at birth. But it has a heartbeat now...

Someone with the means should offer to fly her elsewhere with rational laws and services.

because it is inside her.
Both pregnancy and childbirth are quite risky for the woman. Deborah Dorbert does not deserve any of this not the pain, the anguish, or the risk to her own life.

I know it is a bandaid to the problem but this is so damned sad.

(100,133 posts)4. Yes, it is sad, but it is also far too late to have anything but an induced labor...
She and her husband didnt have the means to travel in the first place, and the tests that showed the fetal abnormality didnt take place until 23 weeks, which is one week from 6 months. They were doing everything right, poor souls.
She says shes in physical pain, and I am guessing that comes from there being no amniotic fluid to cushion her from the fetus bones as it grows.
What a nightmare for her and her husband.
