And yeah, youd have to be some kind of hypocritical sumbitch to call yourself pro-life and yet still support state-sanctioned executionsno matter how much the condemned may have had it coming

(3,650 posts)I dont know if its myself or the world, but today seems to be filled with news that makes my breathing stop and my heart pound. 45 years for a murder he committed when he was 15? I just cant get my head around the cruelty and evilness of this. I just cant.

(2,357 posts)forms of execution (i.e. firing squad, hangings, electric chair). Trump came out earlier in the week threatening more executions when he's re-elected, so Ron must get into the "who's the toughest guy?" race.

(67,798 posts)As I said in another thread, if you must murder in my name, the firing squad is likely the most humane.

(7,290 posts)But not for the murder he committed when he was 15. He was executed for the murder he committed when he was 26 which he did after escaping from prison during his sentence for the first murder.

(8,291 posts)One of the biggest problems with the death penalty is as long as you have money, you'll likely evade it. We need the same rules for the poor as we do for the rich.

(8,291 posts)A good lot of them were hate crimes. But also consider some of the high profile ones like oj simpson and Scott Peterson (who was originally sentenced to death but resentenced in 2021 to 17 years). The death penalty is almost never even pursued against the rich like it is the poor.
There arent many millionaires who commit murders but those who committed some far more heinous than the one shared above, were almost guarantees to not get the death penalty.

(94,520 posts)He was sentenced to life in prison, and then committed a second murder.
If he can't be kept from committing violent crime in prison, the next stage would be to keep him in solitary, which someone would likely complain about as well.

(8,291 posts)(There arent very many in the first place), those who do commit murders are very unlikely to get the death penalty.

(4,002 posts)It had been 32 years since Dillbeck was sentenced to death, and Lamb wasnt his only victim. At the time of her murder, Dillbeck had escaped from a work-release catering job in Gadsden County, where he was serving a life sentence for killing Lee County Deputy Dwight Lynn Hall, 31.
One persons bad enough. But he did two, and he did the second brutal, Rogers said of Dillbecks victims. Nobody should ever be ecstatic about somebody being put to death, but there had to be consequences.

(5,225 posts)Emphasised his murder charge at 15 because it was of a local police officer. It was a misleading report. This person was, admittedly, a bad guy who should be incarcerated for life, but what good did his execution serve? Over 30 years of appeals ect. won't deter a single crime.
