How can editors tell if a story is written by AI?


I read that Clarkesworld magazine was getting so many AI generated stories that they were cutting off submissions for a while.

How could they know?

The AI-generated text I’ve read has sort of a stilted style to it. If your job is reading submissions, the AI-generated stuff will pop out.

But a friend of mine, a published author, tried AI for mystery fiction, and the results were laughably bad.
