Marianne Williamson Confirms Presidential Run, Becoming First Prominent Democrat In 2024

Marianne Williamson confirmed in an interview with Medill News Service on Thursday that she is running for president as a Democrat, becoming the first announced candidate for the party. The best-selling spiritual author and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate is holding an event in Washington on March 4 to officially launch her campaign.

When asked if she was running, Wiliamson said, “We’re on the phone, but if we were on FaceTime, you’d see me wink.”

“I wouldn’t be running for president if I didn’t believe I could contribute to harnessing the collective sensibility that I feel is our greatest hope at this time,” she added.

In 2020, Williamson ran a long-shot campaign with the slogan “join the evolution,” a play on “revolution,” having never served in elected office. She dropped out of the race in January before any primary, polling at less than 1 percent.

She has started all kinds of spiritual and religious groups and was a pastor at one time. She’s into love and light for the Democratic Party. 😊😊

She was known as Oprah’s spiritual advisor.

They take up space at the debates, etc., when there is really no chance in hell that enough would take them seriously to get the nomination. Especially against an incumbent. Give the money to charity rather than waste it on a pipe dream or publicity stunt.

The more people who recognize her name, the more books she sells.

As for those campaign donations, they will likely end up into the bank accounts of her family and friends.

They get to spend other people's money for a few months. Travel around the country holding events that draw few people.

She polled less than 1%, and didn't even make it to the Primaries. And that wasn't running against an Incumbent, like she would be in '24.

What a joke!

38. Williamson did not make the top 25 of potential primary challengers to President Biden
Fri Feb 24, 2023, 02:09 AM
Feb 2023

It is unlikely that President Biden will face a serious primary challenge. The Washington Post did a list of 25 potential primary challengers for President Biden and Williamson is not on this list

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/02/19/top-democrats-2024-ranked/?utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=wp_main&utm_source=twitter

President Biden has signaled he intends to run and that a presidential announcement could be imminent. His State of the Union speech earlier this month appeared to set the stage, and news of an apparently clean bill of health on his physical exam last week would seem to clear the way for the 80-year-old to take the plunge.

At this point, it seems safe to assume he’ll get in. The questions at that point become: Will anybody else? And will Biden lock it down over the next year?

Biden’s candidacy presents some different dynamics from the GOP primary. Fewer Democrats want him to be their 2024 nominee than Republicans who say the same of Donald Trump. But Biden is also the incumbent, making it a more fraught exercise to jump into the campaign against him. Democrats are also simply better at being team players in the Trump era.

For now, basically everyone of substance is saying they wouldn’t do it. But that’s also the smart answer right now. What happens when 2024 approaches, nobody else gets in, and you’re still staring at a primary in which only 37 percent want Biden to run at all? Politics abhors a vacuum. And it’s easy to see Democrats fretting — they are good at that — about whether they’re putting forward their strongest candidate against not just Trump, but say, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

No one considers Williamson a serious candidate
