AMinnesota state senator is getting criticized after a speech where he claimed the states Republican Party isnt bigoted ― and included a slur against Polish people in the process.
During a hearing about potential legislation that would allow undocumented immigrants to get ID cards and Class D drivers licenses, Sen. Mark Johnson (R), the Senate Minority Leader, argued that GOP lawmakers had good-faith objections to the bill, according to the Independent.
There are holes in this bill, Johnson said, while insisting he wasnt attacking any particular demographic groups. Were not calling groups any names. What were saying is we need to protect Minnesotans.

Doesnt matter what your race, your color, your creed, Norwegian, Polack, Somalian, you name it. But folks, we have concerns about this and yet when we bring those concerns up on this floor, tonight we were called white national racists, he said.

Calling a large black man the N word..? NOT advised!
Calling a large Polish-American steel worker the P word..?
Really not advised!

(23,714 posts)and I remember EVERYBODY who was polish used that word in jokes all the time, but I've never heard it used outside those circles, and I always understood it to be "off limits", like your example.

(53,214 posts)in Chicago used that word regularly. I never knew any who were offended by it. They also told the best Polish jokes.

(72,178 posts)I've been saying forever that, in the realm of public service, intelligent people want someone who is as smart or smarter than they are. Stupid people want someone just like themselves: stupid. It's a way of pretending that something worthless has actual value.

(13,797 posts)It's a Polish word and it means "Polish person".
But to include it in a sentence trying to show that you're not prejudiced is poor judgment at best. It seems that Repubs have forgotten how to do politics.
