General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsA lot of red states now want to leave the union.
A lot of those red states get way more in federal spending then they pay is taxes.
Idaho gets $1.69 back from the feds for every dollar they pay in taxes.
Kentucky is another state with their hand out. They get 1.68 back per dollar is taxes paid
Eight of the 10 states most dependent on the federal government traditionally vote Republican.
So I say the first thing we do is take them off the teat. Hey red states yer on your own. Pay yer own way for your treason.

(4,592 posts)You will find all of the ways they are hindering fair elections, trying to get people taken off voter rolls, taking away drop boxes, polling places. You name it. Even some USPS mailboxes were taped shut in my area, so you couldn't mail anything, including your absentee ballot. I took mine directly to the registration office to make sure mine got there. The lines were wrapped around the building. All day long for days, from my understanding. That's how we prevailed. Thank you.

(1,067 posts)I agree with many of your posts and comments but there are many in the South and West who would openly entertain the possibility of secession from the United States. They are either ignorant or lack a basic understanding of what the federal government actually does for them. Texas keeps bringing it up because they were independent for 9 years before they became part of the United States.
Seceding is not realistic but what MTG is doing is creating a groundswell of hatred and contempt for the federal government

Then dont come crying to us when your new house collapses on your family and kills them because you thought itd be great to get rid of the safety regulations. Well get rid of the regulations, and you wont mind eating food that hasnt been inspected for safety before it went to market and maybe itll be full of worms or over sprayed with chemicals that nobody bothered to check for chemicals linked to birth defects

The Republicans in the house are going through sort of equivalent of potty training right now. Their instincts are based on rebelling screaming for help. They have the responsibility of governing now but they honestly don't know how to go about it. Situations like this naturally lead to temper tantrums and a lot of feces being smeared on the walls

Liberal In Texas
(16,270 posts)After Perry's comments (in 2009) received news coverage, Rasmussen Reports (we know how liberal they are) found that about 1 in 3 of those it polled believed that Texas has the right to secede from the United States, although only 18% would support secession and 75% would oppose secession. In another poll, 60% of Texans surveyed opposed becoming an independent nation. However, 48% of Texas Republicans surveyed supported it. The reaction from outside the state was also strongly split, including those who wanted to get rid of Texas. - from Wikipedia

(41,634 posts)In that case all the US banks (and credit cards) would exit the states that secede. The newly-formed secession states would have no banks and no way to make their own currency. We'd just sit by and watch them go under, one by one. Gosh wouldn't that be a hoot?

Texas is probably the worst. I lived there for a couple of years, and from time to time would be regaled with wild-eyed tales about how the Treaty of El Estupido of 1848 entitled them to "secede unilaterally, and for any cause!"

(23,343 posts)It's no secret that much of the big run-up in crypto prices in the weeks following the 2020 election, was due to Republicans (and RW-led businesses) stocking up on crypto "cause Biden's coming for our guns, our homes, our savings, and our hamberders!!"
But once the panic subsided, so did crypto prices - Putin's war and all!
I've noticed over the years that - while a lot of it is human nature - Republicans (in general) are lot more given to Dutch tulips than the rest of us.

Our military will still defend them and have bases there, but other than that they will not get 1 red cent of money from the Federal Government, even in the case of natural disasters. So what Republican "patriots" are asking for is the Divided States of America. The reality of statehood is, as my ancestors discovered, "You can check out any time you please, but you can never leave." Someone needs to tell these people to grow up or STFU.

Doesn't matter though, the christofascists have another plan. The Alito Court is going to be giving states rights more rein and they are going to give the states a semi-secession.
Also complete secession will destroy the states economies.
Loss of military bases, gov't agencies, MIC, corporations will leave and the support jobs will to.
Sane people will leave these states, depleting their tax base.
Not to mention it is unconstitutional.

d. The house districts will be redrawn every 4 years

2. We do create a separate country
a. Consisting of TX, OK, LA, AL, MS and FL
b. All current Federal agencies (incl. Military Personnel and equipment, FBI, NASA...) will be removed from the new "country"

Look at Georgia one idiot white nationalist in the House versus two Democratic Senators, one Black and one Jewish.
