Florida Gov. DeSantis: Christians could sue anyone who calls them homophobic if this GOP bill passes

(This is really insanity.) Watch out for this guy DeSantis. Crap like this could hit everyone in the US, even if NOT LGBT. It's a forerunner as to what could happen in many areas.

https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2023/02/christians-could-sue-people-who-call-them-homophobic-if-this-gop-bill-passes/?utm_id=top_story

The bill's author made sure everyone understood that it's not just about journalists, it's about everyone, even on social media.

State Rep. Alex Andrade (R) filed H.B. 991 on Tuesday. The bill would make it easier to sue journalists, publications, or social media users for defamation if they accuse someone of racism, sexism, homophobia, or transphobia. The bill specifically says that publications can’t use truth as a defense when it comes to reporting on people’s anti-LGBTQ+ sentiments by citing the person’s “constitutionally protected religious expression or beliefs” or “a plaintiff’s scientific beliefs.”

And the bill isn’t limited to professional journalists in scope – it affects anyone in public, including people on social media.

“If someone calls you a fa***t or tra**y and you say they discriminated against you, they can now sue you for at least $35k and cite their religious beliefs,” she noted on Twitter. “This would apply to the internet as well. This would empower bigots to target the LGBTQ community with impunity.”

“This applies to the internet as well so if the person is in Florida, you could be liable even if you have never stepped foot in Florida.”

If a magazine reports that, for example, Pastor Jonathan Shelley is anti-LGBTQ+ because he said he would be supportive “if someone walks into a homo bar and shoots ’em all, shoots a bunch of homos and kills all of them,” Shelley could sue the magazine. The magazine could be blocked from citing his statements as proof of anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment because they’re a part of his “constitutionally protected religious expression or beliefs.”

“Journalists are seeing this as something that only applies to them, but this applies across the board,” Andrade – the bill’s author – said earlier this week, explaining that it applies to social media users as well.

They wouldn’t know a critical thought if it knocked them over the head.

It’s clear they’re playing to a specific audience that lives in their make believe hate world and want to force the rest of us to comply. Hmmmm, I wonder what the definition of that is?

"Christians" who claim they are an abomination, are immoral, are going to Hell, etc. etc.?

This is all of course blatantly unconstitutional, but as long as the right is indulging in this nonsense, I'd like to see some rational Florida lawmaker propose my idea as an amendment, just to see all those Jesus freaks heads explode.

They have no problem literally damning people of whom they disapprove, saying and writing the most hateful things, but let anyone question them or any of their beliefs--and especially their "right" to impose them on others--and Oh the caterwauling that ensues!

21. But who gets to define what a Christian is?
Fri Feb 24, 2023, 06:11 PM
Feb 2023

The Metropolitan Community Church was founded by gay Christians back in the 1960s, and has congregations all over the country.

So even if the law spells out that it can only be used by Christians--which again is absurdly unconstitutional--what happens if a gay or transgender Christian decides to take some evangelical bigot to court?

That's a rhetorical question, of course. The whole point of the bill is simple MAGAt theatre for the MAGAt simple minded.

Passing an unconstitutional law will not make their chances of success any greater than they are today. Interesting to see this attempt to put SLAPP suits into the state code.

Are they embarrassed by what they profess to be or are they going to go to court and claim they actually love and accept homosexuals and the entire LGBTQ community?

Can these good hypocrite Christians be sued for calling someone "woke" or any derogatory term?

No one is storming their churches like they are for black churches and synagogues, no one is physically attacking them, like gay people and minorities, like Asians, blacks and jewish people.

Somehow, I think this should be top of the news to let them see how lucky they are.
