Sad thought: Something inside of me, knowing how reflective Jimmy Carter is, says that

Carter might think near the end that he didn't do enough in his life.

Is there a way we at DU can, as a group, sign something like a letter thanking him for everything he has done and is?

I don't know if we'd get any response, but we should all do something to show him how much he means to us and what he's meant to the country and the world?

Or, as I age, am I just getting overly sentimental?

2. As I have reflected on his life, the more I became aware of what he did.

He did a lot.

He ran a business - a farm and farm supply company.
He was Governor of the State of Georgia and the 39th President.

During his time as President 'We never dropped a bomb. We never fired a bullet. We never went to war'.

He advised Presidents after he left office.

He is well known for his hands on efforts for Habitat for Humanity.

He is well known for the Carter Center and its accomplishments:

There was a pretty big fuss over him getting the Nobel Peace Prize
https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/peace/2002/carter/facts/
“for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development”

He won a Grammy and received many honors and awards

I did not know about this until recently:

I didn't know he was a poet until recently
https://www.amazon.com/Always-Reckoning-Other-Poems-Carter/dp/0812924347

He wrote 32 books on many subjects

I didn't know about his paintings for many years. They're lovely:

I'm sure there is more. He was never idle. How much more could one man do?

Look at the tributes he is receiving at the Carter Center:
https://cartercenter.kudoboard.com/boards/wellwishes
or in the media

This would be a good way to honor him that he would appreciate. The Carter Challenge:
"Do something nice for somebody that needs it. If you have someone who needs a phone call, make the phone call. If somebody needs a visit, go make that visit.”

…and hence to President Carter, and encourage other DUers to do likewise. That’s all I can think of.
