This is what the Cleveland Plain Dealer today ran in the spot where Dilbert usually runs.

This is what the Cleveland Plain Dealer today ran in the spot where Dilbert usually runs. They are replacing the strip (but will run the gray box until they find a new strip) after Adams' racist rant. Good for us, Cleveland!

I used to love Dilbert and read the strip every day. I got a book one time of Dilbert comics and I was laughing so hard, my kids had to tell me to quiet down. I don't read many comics now. I just take the NYT. I did take the Denver Post for a time but operationally they don't know up from down, you cannot call someone, and they froze my comments. Too lib-er-al, I guess...so I haven't even seen a Dilbert comic for years.

Not being able to comment on 'news' stories and editorials is not acceptible to me now. I don't go to Huffington Post or the Hill any more because they cut out reader comments.

Anyway, what Adams said in his podcast rant does not help us at all. There is a solution to our race problems:

Face the FACT that the United States is built on slavery, conquest and genocide and come to terms with that. Be honest about it. Oh, but wait! To do that we will have to overturn Citizens United and impose a 21st Century Fairness Doctrine. Because the billionaire parasites PAY MILLIONS to fund think tanks and dark money pacs that put out racist tropes and propaganda.

Oh, we will also have to reinstate AND ENFORCE the Voting Rights Act. And we'll have to outlaw gerrymandering. And we also need to take back school boards so we don't get racist assholes taking books off bookshelves and CENSORING what our kids read. Our PUBLIC schools need to teach the TRUTH.

Heavy lift, isn't it? Because it involves lifting that giant golden idol Wall Street bull and getting rid of it. It involves telling the truth and working to change minds after decades of right-wing hate propaganda resulting from Reagan killing the Fairness Doctrine. There's a documentary about that called 'The Brainwashing of my Father.' Do we forgive our fathers for succumbing to it? How can we deal with that? De-nazification was what we did in post-WWII Germany. It worked. Would we have the political will to do that here?

Seems that Wall Street makes MORE PROFITS when we all hate and mistrust one another, because then we don't notice the billionaire parasites picking our pockets. Scott should KNOW this, and his rant SHOULD have been about that.

The billionaires have been distracting us to divide and weaken us average people as a whole for decades. It has worked. They’ve succeeded at riling 10s of millions of voters up over stuff that doesn’t really affect them personally in their own life to the point they don’t even see the stuff that does. And many of these riled up people are now going ballistic while some are even running and getting elected to high office by other riled up people! We are becoming a powder keg. And it strikes me — frighteningly — that de-nazification w”might not occur until after the powder keg goes off and only if we prevail in the upheaval created by that explosion.

One other comment PforB: nice rant!

E-N drops ‘Dilbert’ because of creator’s comments about Black Americans
Feb. 25, 2023
Updated: Feb. 25, 2023 9:25 a.m.

The San Antonio Express-News is dropping the comic strip “Dilbert” because of hateful and discriminatory public comments by its creator, Scott Adams.

In his online video show, Adams recently made numerous disparaging remarks about Black Americans. These statements are offensive to our core values. Dropping a comic strip from our pages is not censorship. Adams is entitled to his opinions. The Express-News is not obliged to give him a platform and financial support.

Because the comics section is published in advance, we cannot withdraw it from our pages immediately. Readers will find it in their Saturday and Sunday papers. But as of Monday, “Dilbert” will no longer appear in the Express-News.

He struck a lot of nerves with the pointy haired boss and a host of other coprorate characters we all love to hate. That's why the strip has been long running.

I guess his social filters are failing as he gets older and more toads are hopping out of his mouth in public.

ran the best headline of my lifetime in March 1969, about the newly-revealed My Lai massacre. It consisted of a nearly-half-page picture of the dead, and the headline, "1st Photos Of Viet Mass Slaying." I'd run a picture of it here if I could. No ambiguity, no both-sides-ism. No escape for the reader. Back when the press could act with decisiveness against a horror. This is not as serious a situation, but the Plain Dealer is again acting with admirable decisiveness.
