Cranston: The Make America Great Again, my comment is do you- do you- do you accept that that could possibly be construed as a racist remark?, and most people- a lot of people- go how could that be racist, Make America Great Again? I said so just ask yourself from an African-American experience, when was it ever great in America for the African-American? When was it great? so if youre making it great again, its not including them-
so its to teach us in the woke world to open up and accept the possibilities that our privilege has created blind spots for us and maybe, I havent seen what is really happening in all my years.

(20,356 posts)Nothing but white, straight, smiling people as far as the eye can see. Dad goes off to work, Mom stays home and cooks, cleans, and has dinner on the table, all while wearing a sun dress and apron. The kids are always respectful of their elders or they get a few belt lashes across the ass.
The men are the heads of the household and the breadwinners, except for the occasional elementary teacher or nurse, and even they aren't making more than their husbands (heaven forbid!).
The women know their place, never challenging a man's authority.
The Blacks aren't uppity, just always smiling and saying "Yassir!" to Mr. Smith.
The gays are in the closet.
The Mexicans are either in Mariachi bands or mowing your lawn.
The religion is Christian, and only Protestant or Baptist at that.
The world of MAGA is only great for heterosexual, patriarchal white men.

(58,785 posts)nostalgia for this happy (for white people) white America picture, and of "out-group hate" or rejection, of what conflicts.
These days, though, even most conservatives prone to white nationalist nostalgia (including even many MAGAs) want that picture advanced to include many of the social advances they grew up with and see as normal. Just a couple episodes of bland "Father Knows Best" will have something to elicit an "Oh, I don't think so!" among them also. As opposed to the RW extremists whose noise is being trumpeted everywhere, but are far less representative.
Conservatives in general do tend to value and need for comfort a higher degree than liberals of social conformity and social stability undisturbed by change, and those old sitcoms were full of both. But for most the nostalgia's for a "natural," "appropriate" domination by what was seen as the dominant culture. They have a notably greater comfort with and acceptance of inequality than liberals. But hate and ugly oppression, cringeworthy servility by minorities, lashes to the children, are not part of the nostalgia for most, only the worst.
People in our whitest states may fail to realize how comfortable even most conservatives are who grew up with more diversity and integration than is normal in white states. Horrible people want to bring back lynching to keep other races servile, many authoritarian MAGAs want the same effect while denying evil's required; but many moderate conservatives approved the #BLM protests and their goals.
That most conservatives want most of what we do, including good jobs for women, etc, even though to less "wild" and more conforming degrees, is important to make the most of. While they vote with MAGAs and make MAGAism possible, it's appropriate enough to regard them as a huge part of that problem, but still will recognizing the significant differences among them. Hopefully the extremism of the MAGAs will continue forcing more and more moderate cons to a point where they have to break away to vote for what all studies say they want. To the point where the norm to conform to shifts away from extremism to a sensible decency.

And yes. It's racist. Fox News viewers have an entirely different idea of the 44th President's accomplishments. I swear, the fact that Obama won reelection and asshat didn't, totally drove them insane.

(26,856 posts)To Fake News viewers Obama being elected originally; some part of their mind could chalk it up to being a "fluke"
But then, the absolute "affrontery" of him being reelected?!!!!! The "flukyness" goes out the window.

(43,165 posts)based on your comment. Wallace is actually smirking. I was appalled at that expression. What a @$#head.
and all the while, Bryan Cranston is deeply involved in his explanation, which is thoughtful and empathetic, but Wallace can't even muster the ability to truly listen to what he is saying.
These MAGATs are beyond hope, they really are.

(1,654 posts)Historically most race riots even in the north were white men rampaging and beating and killing black people. The draft riot in New York during the civil war was because white men did not want a war to free enslaved people (although it was to preserve the Union).
Look up almost any riot prior to the 60s and you'll find it's the white people doing the rioting. But just last year I had a very nice late middle aged man tell me he was looking to retire but didn't want to retire to where there would be any rioting.
(Guess he shouldn't consider Charlottesburg.)
