Born To Run The Numbers examines the "war on woke" being wage by Governor Ron DeSantis, and sees the clear ulterior motive:

Excerpts: "Essentially, the man has been handed a giant bully pulpit that gives him latitude to address any and all issues facing our nation....So what does Ron DeSantis do? He gets furious about the curriculum for an AP class on African-American studies. And the big, rousing line in his second inaugural address was "We will never surrender to the woke mob. Florida is where woke goes to die...
"The Stop WOKE Act" essentially prohibits any commercial venture or educational institution from advancing a notion that individuals are 'inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously'...Talk about irony: the very existence of a law designed to curtail teaching about the possibility of racial bias is the best proof imaginable that a society has an inherent racial bias...
"Why is he banning books? Is he really doing this to protect children? Or is he doing it to define his personal political brand?
"Dog whistles are nothing new in Republican politics. 'States rights' has long been a posture of high-minded principle camouflaging the desire to ignore Federal government authority in matters of civil rights. Richard Nixon pandered to a 'silent majority, with its implicit contrast to 'loud minorities...' And if you are Ron DeSantis contemplating a run against Donald Trump, you realize that you need the loudest dog whistle you can find.
"So what does Ron do? He declares war on "woke." It is just the latest immature stunt from the man who put frightened, puzzled, and yet hopeful immigrants into an airplane and flew them to Marthas Vineyard. What kind of man brutally manipulates the poor, the vulnerable, and the powerless for a childish political gag?"

(39,085 posts)Is to to be the opposite of woke, ignorant, asleep and uninformed. It is the 21st century term for
"Liberal" another word they basterdised. By definition being woke is good but Republicans have made it bad.
I got to say they are always great at messaging even if it makes no sense.

Synonyms of woke
chiefly US slang

: aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)
But we will only succeed if we reject the growing pressure to retreat into cynicism and hopelessness. We have a moral obligation to "stay woke," take a stand and be active; challenging injustices and racism in our communities and fighting hatred and discrimination wherever it rises.

(11,767 posts)Therefore, they have had to culturally engineer issues to keep together a coalition of people who have specific grievances, typically racial, gender based, or religious. Since the wealthy will typically own the mass communication apparatus, they are pretty effective at stirring up the emotions of people who allow prejudices to motivate them.
The messaging doesn't make sense on a rational or intellectual level, but that is not what the right wing is going for. They rely HEAVILY on emotional messaging. That is why their messages are always about who to hate or fear. Who is coming after "your children". Who are the SCARY caravans coming to "take your jobs" AND "be lazy and live off welfare" (at the same time).
Conservatives are always emotionally primed and the right wing media keeps them activated to fear and hate "the other" so that they will vote against their own economic interests.

The man my Christo-fascist in-laws think is the third coming of Jesus. Trump was the second.
