Getting attention and being in the news has relatively little to do with a person's level of intelligence. People are drawn to spectacle. Making stupid and outlandish statements will draw a reaction. It is not rocket science or brain surgery.

If I wanted to, I could get attention and be in the news, but I think about the consequences of my actions on other people more than I think about attention that I might want in the moment.

Greene is absolutely stupid. The problem is that she belongs to a political party FULL of stupid people who think that what she is doing and saying is valid, and that party is backed by very wealthy and powerful people who don't care about the spectacle as long as they get to make and keep more money than they can ever possibly need.

The problem for Greene is that she is constantly painting herself into a smaller and smaller corner. She needs to go bigger and be more extreme to keep her audience. She may get a more devoted audience, but as she gets more extreme, the audience will become smaller and louder, until she burns out.
