Who was the best NYC Mayor of the last 45 years?

I'm only going back 45 years because I don't remember anyone before Ed Koch. I'm kinda torn between two, and would like to see where everyone else stands before I vote on my own poll. Please give your opinions as to why you chose as you did.

Bloomberg's first term was legendary. He just got carried away by his third with that soda ban.

He appointed a magazine publisher to run the biggest school system in the country. She lasted a year and created a shambles.

Among other things.

So all of the things you mentioned didn't effect me at all at the time (not to sound selfish, but we all vote for our intensions to an extent). Loved Koch too, but I was a kid.

. . . which WASN'T needed, and which has resulted, today, in a city with massive luxury towers that sit half empty!

I know he was a Republican, but back in those days they weren't evil.

5. NYC Mayor is a position that is vastly overstated outside the NYC limits.

Yes, it's the nation's largest city. But governing a municipality is far different than governing a country or a state, no matter what the size.

That's why all the NYC mayors who have either been rumored to be Presidential candidates or have declared have crashed and burned.

Despite what New Yorkers might think, non-New Yorkers don't put much stock or interest into the NYC mayor position beyond it being a local curiosity. They just don't.

I voted for Koch in this poll, who came in a distant second.
