I agree with targeting your intended audience.
Borders near me back in the day had an activity night for young kids which drew in loads of people. Parents shopped while kids made art or had storytime & snacks.
Working folks would definitely need later hours & more weekend hours, typically.

You could probably get loads of cheap books to sell at estage & garage sales.
