I called the bank yesterday to order more, rarely used personal checks. I intended to talk to a real person but after a few tries at their phone tree, was directed to the printers website and forced to do it online. *grumble* Then after a couple of attempts to navigate the site and being subsequently bumped out a notch or two (mostly my fault but more **grumbling**), I finally got to where I could select and order the checks. Yay.
I just wanted the cheapest, simple ones but decided to browse their style selections. I looked at a few and came across "Patriotic Themes". Okay, whadda they got? The usual slogans one might expect. God Bless America, America the Beautiful, America, Love it or Leave it, etc. Then I saw it: "Proud to be a Republican". Okay, where's the one for Democrats? Nada. Nope. They don't have one. What? So the check printing company is pretty much telling me a Democrat can't be patriotic and patriotism is exclusive to the GOP? Bullshit.
By this time I was really pissed. I went to order the checks but another software glitch prevented this Proud Democrat from assigning a number consecutive to my last check, instead defaulting to a #101. Add more coal to the fire. Not acceptable, and I'm about outta my mind with frustration and anger towards this print company. I bailed their site after leaving a shitty review and will take this "Patriotism" issue up with the bank on Monday - which may include closing my more-than-small accounts if the asshole printing company does not get pressured to add "Proud to be a Democrat" to their patriotic selection. I will be following up on any flowery promises they might make about fixing this by mail to both the bank and print company.
I realize that this is really small potatoes in the big picture of what's going on today. People are facing life-changing, mortal situations and decisions that far outweigh what can be put on a piece of paper. Hell, I probably won't choose this check style anyway. But that's not the point. I also realize it's not the bank's fault. In fact, former Idaho Governor John Evans, a Democrat, comes directly from the family who founded this bank. But this is how this insidious bullshit gets started. If I can make a small effort and change this printing company's idea of just who can be considered a patriot, I guess I'll call it a small win.
End O'Rant. Proud to be a Democrat

(2,809 posts)So is some T shirt company called Kalesafe that keeps popping up ads: I wrote them some stinging feedback on their customer "contact us" about having a whole selection of loud "Trump" shirts but no counter-products. I don't get the idea of any business that alienates well over half of their customer base right up front like that.
But, at the same speed I'm certainly not going to patronize any retail business flying "MAGA" flags all over it either. I'm 10 more weeks on this Arizona contract, every small town out here has at least one idiotic storefront like that.

they probably don't have progressive, Democrat, or liberal checks because we tend to keep up with the times. lol

(1,654 posts)When I realized how much ordering through my bank was a rip-off. I haven't ordered in years since I now do most of my bill paying online through my bank website, but I was shocked when my friend, who doesn't trust paying online, ordered more checks for herself through her bank and I almost fainted when I found out how much they cost now through her bank. I told her she doesn't have to do that and can order from anyone as long as she has the correct routing number and account number, but she doesn't want to change.
But I noted the Trump and MAGA stuff creeping into regular merch also. I guess they wanted to get in a little on the action of those popup places that hawk that gaudy crap.

(10,227 posts)Neither my wife or I were aware of a non-bank option till tonight and remarked how expensive they were. Gouging their accounts for the privilege of letting them use our funds as they see fit I guess.

The checks from checksunlimited.com are thicker and very sturdy.
They also have a large number of themes.
I picked the Warner Bros. with Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner & Sylvester the cat.

(58,151 posts)because none of them knows what a uterus looks like.
But I was shocked at the number of "events" that happened when I had my "Biden/Harris 2020" sticker on.
People giving me the finger, people swerving in front of me on highways and slowing down to near stopping, people acting like my tire was flat and motioning me to the side of the road to tell me I was stupid for voting for him. And these all happened in Northeast states.
I'll put the sticker back on, with the flag, once our primary is over despite all that.
But I won't visit my relatives in red states.

You also cannot call and have check registers sent due to covid i was told go to the bank directly.

You hit "0" for live agent and then get the message that volume is higher than usual call back later. Even the IRS that is so desperately in need of collecting your tax dollars won't answer the phones. I guess they just go on and garnish wages or place liens on your property. Same is true with State Tax agencies.
