(103,790 posts)Too stressful. But I do hear the report on the legislature on the NPR station, both station collaborate and file the same report. They do a good job of covering what's happening. But it still pisses me off.
So I try to limit my exposure.

(32,615 posts)I posted about this today in one of those Don't Worry, Be Happy Threads. I posted about the Georgia Senate having passed this last Thursday, now the House Assembly has passed it.
I got no hits on this because I have been called a doom and gloomer,
Don't Worry, Be Happy, Indictments are imminent in Georgia except pretty soon one of the people who is a target is going to be able to fire Fani Willis.
I have been leery to post this but I think now is the time, I believe that saying that everything is going according to plan, that DOJ and state prosecutors are getting ready to indict Trump is a right wing authoritarian talking point to keep people quiet.
Our democracy is on the brink and it's about time that more Americans realize this.

(2,122 posts)The rethuglicans will work their way through GA, MI, PA, WI and AZ with garbage like this. Theyre not done by a long shot. Doom and gloom is warranted. Were seriously out of time.

(4,616 posts)Seriously out of time 20 years ago when it was broadcast, loudly and often, that republican goals were to take over state houses and stack the federal courts. The barn door is wide open, and the horses are bolting. Gonna be quite the task to shut the door AFTER the fact.

just fuck you! Look at our actions vs Israel. The damn country is in the streets and the military is stopping training in protest for their far right dictator shitting on their judicial system. Remember he was indicted yet still re-elected. We had better wake the fuck up, much more than the current woke.
The black hole of the GQP is sucking the life out of this country.

(32,615 posts)and the people who call Trump stupid gives me chills. Yeah, he wouldn't get one question right on Jeopardy but he can destroy our democratic institutions and we are supposed to believe, Don't Worry Be Happy because he is stupid. The insurrection never ended on J/6/ 2021.

(26,349 posts)Individual states have their own election laws. But is there a federal law that could apply to what Trump did in Georgia?
Attempted extortion of Raffensperger? Abuse of power?

Yes, DOJ can prosecute Trump for what he did in Georgia.

(13,141 posts)And in todays America, trump could still be appointed President and Pardon himself. All the battles fought for this countrys survival and one fat assed, illiterate, rapist, lying, criminal is about to take us down. Our response is pathetic compared to the lives lost throughout our history. The justice system has failed us because of their fear to prosecute.
Silent3
(15,909 posts)...that they haven't been motivated to do quickly, if at all.
They could have gone after Trump for the same campaign finance violations that put Michael Cohen in jail, from Day 1 that Garland was in charge, but they let the federal statute of limitations run out on that, so now that's up to NY State to handle.
gab13by13
(32,615 posts)the Ga. Lt. Governor is one of Fani's targets for prosecution and he is one of the people who gets to pick the new commission that fires DAs. What a blatant conflict of interest, but I won't be surprised if they get away with this.
What was amazing is how well she linked the Georgia BananaReTHUG plan to whats going on in Israel, Hungary, Russia, etc.

(26,349 posts)We know that MAGAs will not do it. But if we get started on this, Idependents and anti Trump Republicans will follow. Not all of them, but, between the ones who f9 stand up and us, we could put pressure on MAGAs, let them know that we will not stand by and watch our legal system destroyed.
Besides protests, we could do walkouts, work stoppages, whatever it takes.

(4,616 posts)This has been coming for quite a while. Republicans played the long game while the country rocked on thinking "this will never happen here" "this is already settled law" I just can't relate to candidate X or candidate x doesn't represent me. Here's a good read on how republicans raided the hen houses in full public view.

"Several other factors may be encouraging the red states right turn. Anderson, of Heritage Action, noted that state and local governments rules and restrictions during COVID-19 shutdowns prompted many conservative activists to conclude that local and state politics probably impact their day-to-day more than even federal policy does. Others I spoke with pointed out that conservatives are more confident that aggressive state-level social policies will withstand judicial challenges now that Republicans have solidified their 63 Supreme Court majority; the most restrictive abortion bills passed this year, for instance, would require the Court to roll back the nationwide right to abortion established in Roe v. Wade, as conservatives hope it will in a case involving a 15-week ban approved earlier in Mississippi. Groups such as Heritage Action and the American Legislative Exchange Council are also stepping up efforts to encourage Republican-controlled states to pursue a common conservative agenda; Heritage Action, for instance, published principles for election-law changes that Anderson has claimed helped guide..."

Rachel Maddow looks at a new measure Georgia Republicans are pushing through the legislature that would give them the ability to remove elected prosecutors they don't like, and notes the glaring conflict of potential charges pending against Donald Trump in Fulton County as the bill advances. - Aired on 03/06/2023.

(82,383 posts)so they fire a prosecutor, then the next one can do the same thing.
Plus they are sure that the Democrats would never be in power to be able to do the same?
There's no way this law is constitutional. It's like saying outright that they think if you are high enough in government, or have influential friends, you can't be prosecuted.
